Hey guys,
You're all missing an important point: there's also perfectly possible to use a GPS software WITH NO MAPS ! And there isn't such an app on Android Market, unfortunately ! For hikers, bikers and anyone with some orientation skills, an app which is able to LOAD WAYPOINTS and TRACKS, preferably .kml and .gpx, show them in a simple GUI, and offers basic navigation info (speed, azimuth, altitude, travel time & distance) is (very) good indeed.
I myself have programmed such a software for windows mobile 5.0 and have used it for years, hiking and driving off-road. But now I bought meself an Android phone and we'll have to start from scratch.

I think people nowadays have become to spoiled, can't live without "Directions" and "POIs".
