So what direction do you feel Android should be moving in ?
In my opinion these apps just make the G1 look like an iPhone, i would have stayed with my iPhone if I wanted that. Why do want our phone to look just like the iPhone? The best thing about the G1 is the notifications that we get, I hated the fact when bubbles came up on the screen and got in the way of what we were doing, and chompsms.....its basically the same messenger the iPhone uses.....whats next the app icons?![]()

but you see, that's the beauty of android... you can do whatever(mostly, but way more so than the iphone) the eff you want on android.
...you can't deny the fact that apple has brought to light a lot of functions and features within the mobile phone industry. it's because of the iphone along with all the other previous dated phones, that we have the phones(including their features and functions) we are using and will use today and in the future.
just a thought![]()
Exactly, we can do whatever we want with android, so why are we trying to be like iPhone? I mean don't get me wrong, i'm not a developer I'm just saying that we should be different. People bash iPhone's all the time but as soon as there are apps that are just like what iphone has, they get 4 stars? There are better messaging apps, personally I really liked the touchflo messaging in the diamond and touchpro, I don't know if you call that a widget or what but it was nice.
I won't deny that iPhone has revolutionized the way mobile phones are being made nowadays, but not every single phone has to look and act like it. We can be better than it, and an actual keyboard is one reason the G1 is better.
The 2 things that the iPhone has that I want in the G1.No lag, and multi-touch. That is what I'm jealous of, and in due time, we should get it.
Album cover flow is cool too I must admit, but how can we make it better? Not imitate it but improve it, whatever the answer is, is what should be on android.
I completely agree with you and I personally hate the speech bubble layout of the iPhone text messaging system, preferring the simple G1 approach. Can't wait for cupcake to be released and have VK in the standard SMS app
I think it is an ok application. I downloaded it to see what all the hype was about and then uninstalled it. It doesn't do anything that special in my opinion and I can't see taking up space when I already have an application that came with the phone that does the same function as well.
i'm with ya Hyper. i think the virtual keyboard was a nice tease at what we can expect to be the standard in the near-future. i'm not a TOTAL fan of the speech bubble layout. i was quite happy (and since i uninstalled Chomp, i am back to) with native Messaging. it's clean, easy to use, etc. it just gets sluggish when scrolling (that's supposed to be addressed in Cupcake), that's all. AND it didn't have a VK. other than that, there was no need to try Chomp. it was exciting for a second, but ultimately, it just looks like iChat.
i think skins/themes will be something we'll see in the future and ultimately, that's all Chomp is. not dissing the developers of it at all, but in the end, who needs an "app" to do SMS and MMS? this is native to the phone and shouldn't require additional bloat. the features? a skin and a VK. we'll have the VK soon and skins, i can live without. skins are for people who dump tons of crappy CSS in their MySpace About boxes and have a page that looks like, well, HTML vomit.![]()
I stopped using it (ChompSMS) because of the intermittent notifications.
yeah, it's just clutter really. all of this stuff *will be covered by android eventually, so i can be patient.![]()
