    Default Alternative Android Markets

It might be nice to compile a list of all alternative Android markets.

Definition: a service which allows a developer to distribute android apps to consumers.

Underlined ones have a client app. (others only a site)
Italic ones have payment services. (others only free apps)

    • Google Android Market
    • SlideMe
    • AndAppStore
    • Handango
    • AndroidGear
    • Phoload
    • Mobihand
    • AppsLib
    • Insyde Market
    • NetDragon
    • KUQU
    • Noverca
    • GetJar

Please add any other site or service that you know of to this thread.

    great idea.

your list is more then i already knew about. i gues cyrket requires the android market.
it would also be nice if there was a way to index the random apps across the web also. for example xda has a few that are only available at their site. jsharkey keeps his on his blog.
but for now i think your idea of listing the alternative android markets is a great idea.

Agreed. And like Connie above, this list is far more than I knew about. That said, I don't know if they all have download links, or if they're like the ones I've seen before that merely list what's available in market without allowing a download.

It seems as though this list comes up because of the Google Vs. Cyan Cease & Desist letter. If that's the case, you'll need not a list of app lists but rather a list of downloadable APKs. Clients would be great.

Further, I saw in another thread (on the android google group) that the developers of SlideME are willing to make it Open-Source if there is enough interest in the community to help develop the app. Lack of interest is about all that's holding them back.

The reason I never kept SlideME is because (if I recall) it reminded me of something no different than the market itself. So I saw no point. But now, if that's what it is (basically a Market clone) then I think I'll give it another shot (while keeping Cyanogen and dumping the stock Market from the phone).

There's another Market app I downloaded called MyMarket. I kept it, never use it, but if it's not dependent on the stock Market, it's probably worth a lookit.

Here is my first attempt at using google docs to collaborate on a document (and yes, I realize the irony of using google docs to do this. Do you have an open source suggestion?)

Here is the link to get to the spreadsheet, no sign-in required to edit:

I would like to give some precision about Appslib of Archos (http://www.appslib.com).
This market is different of other because you touch others people than phone users. For now only an interet tablet Archos 5 IT is available and people using these Archos devices are really fans.

Appslib.com is already available and you can submit your app.

    Pay attention :
    - applications using Google apps (Google Maps, Gtalk...) don't work on this first device because Archos hasn't agreement by Google to include these APIs
    - applications using camera and phone functionnality don't work too on the Archos 5 IT. For information, Archos announces some future devices having phone and camera functionnalities
    - only free app are today authorized. Paid app should be authorized at the beginning of 2010.

I think that this market is intersting because you can have new ideas to develop app, especially for this device or post your current app without develop anything and touch a larger public.

i do not think i was ready for you to put words in quotation marks. i'll think about what you really want when you put your search in quotes and try to return something that makes sense.

great article giving all the technical detail about this product. i was wandering around to get some insight about it from a long time. thnx to resolve my issue

There is a new market that just came out at the end of last month.

    Applanet.net

It has lots of free apps that you would mormally have to pay for.

It shows prices but they have slashes thru them. According to the admin they are all free of charge.

I also found a site that has lots of free apps

    androvation.com

The guy is nice and will get you an app if its not listed on his site
