Default HTC Magic, Dream, or wait for Hero

Hey everyone. I'm a new member and wanted to introduce myself as well as get some advice on what phone to get. I actually have an iPhone right now but I'm an avid linux supporter and when I herd a year or so back that google would be coming out with android and it would be running the linux kernel i was pumped.

My question really is what should I replace my iPhone with? I would really like to get the Hero but I'm trying to sell my iPhone and buy my next phone with the money I receive from it. I don't have much money so I can't really be to super picky. From what I've seen on the HTC website the magic and the hero are very similar but the hero has the headphone jack, better battery and 5mp camera. Now I'm assuming that the Google ion has the same specs as the magic listed on the HTC website. I've seen cases where they don't have more ram than the G1 and I'm really looking to have the extra ram.

So here's the main questions:
  1. Does the battery life between these three phone differ greatly?
  2. Does the so called google ion have the specs listed on the HTC website?
  3. Is there a great deal of applications that rely on the dream's keyboard? Would I be loosing functionality by going totally touch screen? (I prefer soft keyboards by the way)
  4. Are these phones able to be rooted? (With the exception of the Hero as it's not out yet)
  5. What would the price of the Hero be on ebay when it is released?
  6. And ultimately what is the phone I should be getting in your opinion?
Thanks in advanced for any help.

you said yourself you want the hero, so why bother asking others thoughts, if you already know what you want.

Hero is a few months away. Given that G1 released in October last year and europe already had their magic in Feb, but T-Mobile USA didn't release the Magic in the USA until now just to create some gap between G1 release and Magic release, you can be rest assured that Hero is not coming to the US anytime before the holiday season of 09. If you're in a hurry, buy the Magic.

I am in a little hurry but if the Hero comes to Europe unlocked I don't mind paying like $500 dollars for it on ebay or something. I know it wouldn't be compatible with US 3g frequencies but I don't care because I only use edge to save battery and I'd be using it on at&t anyway. I'll probably wait a couple weeks to see what the Hero prices are going to be and then decide to get the Hero or the Magic as they have extremely similar specs.

I'm on the same boat LOL!. Mytouch3G is going to be my first android phone but I saw the videos of the HTC Hero and wow, amazing! The UI is awesome but I want to try the mytouch3g before HTC Hero, besides that I am not sure if tmobile's 3G is compatible with HTC Hero.

yeah i saw that... but that looks kind of sketch...

first off the guy started off with 10... how the hell did he get ahold of ten devices before it was released? second didnt htc say that they still had to do more revisions to the ROM? so what ever this guy is selling is a pre release... for almost $800 i would say it isnt worth it...
