ive gone through the process of rooting my g1 more times than i wish to remember. i've tried more roms this yr than i've had g/fs. i'm totally in love with my phone. one thing i've never done...and dont plan to... is updating the spl. i know this is a sure fire way to brick your phone if your not careful.

i've had so much trouble rooting before..i'm stayin clear of it infact. i only have 1 g1 and will only every have 1 g1.

heres my question. what is the spl? i understand what everything else is. i understand you need it for a hero/rosie/sense rom. what exactly is it, and whats the pros of updating it to hykuros?

Hi i'm new to android and as a matter of fact this whole open development wave of technology(my last decent phone was a sidekick 2). I now own a samsung moment and am very pleased, but im looking to maximize my experience(its my phone i'd like it to do what i say lol)

as far as the phone goes its beautiful, the screen is incredible even on the lowest brightness(i keep it at 30 %), the processor is an 800 MHZ processor and the overall feel is great.

i'd like to know is there anyway i can:

1) delete apps, widgets and icons permanently even if they are native to the build

2) automatically stop specific programs(weatherbug, sprint navigation, moxy mail, calendar, alarm etc) from starting by themselves......by either placing them on an auto-shutdown list or something like that when they try to start up

and id like to be informed about what he term "rooting" means and does any1 know about any 2.0 update for the moment.

sorry if this is in the wrong place or all my questions are rudimentary, id really appreciate the feedback

Ok, I've done a lot of searching around for this, and I keep getting all kinds of old and new information, and I'm just hoping for an updated step by step of flashing say mlign's hero rom.

I have a dream running cm 4.2.5 with a class 6 sd card (fat32/ext3/96mb swap) and hard spl. I also have the newest radio required for cm and for haykuro's spl (2.22.19.26I)

From what I understand I'll need haykuro's latest spl to be able to run hero roms.

What do I need to do at this point where I'm at to get the hero rom on my phone? I'm just nervous about bricking while flashing the spl.

I guess I'd just like a straight forward step by step for flashing everything I need to get it all running. I'm not new to android, but haven't dabbled with anything outside of what I needed to do to get cm running.

Please do not bash this thread. Android is made to be open source and designed to work how the user wants it. I like the easy look of the iPhone, and would like to share it with everyone here. Below is a pic of what you can do it is very simple.

1. dxtop from android market $2.99
2. I will email you the icons I have cut them all from a high quality pic, and can send them to you.
3. chompsms
4. All you have to do is install dxtop change the background to a black photo.
5. find a pic of the 3GS to referance and add the applications from your device to the homescreen, for example for weather just add the weather app, and you will hcange it in the next step.
6. Then you hold on to the icon and click change icon, and choose from the photos.
7. Hold on to the icon to rename the application.

It seems like it takes a while but the whole process took 15 minutes, and its easy, just repetitive.
All the apps will launch becasue essentially it is just a different picture. of the real icon.
Hope everyone enjoys.
