View Full Version : Speed dialer, please...

Some are using short cuts, and they are fine unless you are driving. You can hammer on the dialer numbers and they won't "move", nor call up the trash can. The dialer with this phone has nice, big numbers and, in states like California, where hands-free is required, would be much safer (not to mentioned, easier) to use than short cuts.

The G1 & iPhone are about the only "smart phones" on the market without a speed dialer, and someone finally wrote one for the iPhone. Anybody listening?

Thanks

also... has anyone figured out what is going on (on the dialer) when you push, as an example, 5 and then # and a contact number comes up?

Have you tried the SpellDial App? Great program and it has T-9-like intelligence. Also what about the VoiceDialer- just hold down the green call button and say who you want to call. It works pretty good.

I'll have a look at that app. Maybe because I have a low voice, but my voice dialer doesn't work worth a damn. Maybe I'll try in falsetto?

Thanks Oregon

SpellDial doesn't work right for me. I'll press a few keys and it's fine, starts narrowing down the contacts that match. Then the contacts disappear and the numbers I have pressed pop up.

The voice dial is nowhere near developed sufficiently. Everytime I try it, a list of 10-20 contacts pop up.

The voice dialer needs to work like a motorola:
"Say a command"
You say name dial, digit dial, or voicemail
"Say a name"
You say, eg, Bill Smith
If it understands, "Say a number"
You say home, work, or mobile
"Dialing"
If it didn't understand, "Did you say Bob Smith"
You say no
"Bill Smith?"
Yes
"Say a number"
etc
With the motorola, you never have to look at the phone

When I first tried it, it looked at the SIM. I tried 1-5, I'm guesings its the service codes/numbers based on the sim card. It's just for quick access/reference.

Use search this has been requested many times, maybe you should reply in one of those threads instead of creating a new one.

O why o why do you need to reply and not create a new post? Because look at the answers you have received they have no new information. All you have done is started the discussion over again, thats two steps back.

Gosh o gee... maybe because this is the right place to ask the question... and where it might actually get the attention it deserves? Were you ever a hallway monitor in Jr. high school?

or you could just not go into threads YOU know have already been posted. Cause not alll of us search to make sure that everything we say hasnt already been said. Some stuff thats very important to one person might not be important to you. But you dont need to be rude to people who dont go search all 25 pages of threads to make sure were not posting something already posted.

i used Any Cut app to have shortcut icons of my most used phone #'s & text reciepients w/ their icons.

these are placed on 1 of the 3 main home pages. so it's very easy to call & text my peeps.

i did see some type of speed dialer thing, but icon works better for me..

Have this, but very hard to use while driving. With my N80, you just held down a number and it called the person associated. 1 step.

If your to uneducated to understand that some people have already discussed this and maybe you should continue the discussion instead of starting a new one.

O, wait your to important to do that. Everyone should stop there previous discussions and come here to wipe your butt and answer your questions.

Forms are large collections of discussions and information. Would you open a book to page one, see the information your looking for isn't there and then start asking people?

Your Nokia N80 had a slide out keyboard, the full g1 keyboard is nothing like your N80.

How is selecting an icon hard while driving? If its in the same spot every time you will get used to pressing it. You can put the icons in the same pattern as a number pad 3x3 or even crazier 4x4.

Im not the one who started this thread. Its not that hard to find out who did. I actually havent started any threads. Because everything that I was thinking had already been started and Ive seen the posts come up. I didnt search for them Im just able to observe the name and see what its about. Obviously you are not capable of doing that. I was just defending the guy who started this cause maybe he's new to the forum and didnt know that there are a million other pages of threads. Im on my G1 doing this and I have to scroll all the way over to the right to see that. Maybe so is this person and they didnt scroll over. There are reasons for why people do stuff. Not cause we want someone to wipe our butts. So please next time you feel like being rude think about the fact that there could be a reason for the way something happened.

Of course, but you wouldn't even use the full G1 board, just the dialer, and with the nice large numbers on the G1 dialer, speed dialing would be even better (and, safer while driving) then on my N80, and it's a snap on that. Hey, it's a New Years wish, but all smart phones that I have used, has it. Now, I hear, even the iPhone has it.

I just measured the icons used on the desktop and the buttons on the dialer they are both 1inch on the screen.

Making the statement that the dialer buttons are larger mute.

I did not respond to you as if you were the original poster, I responded to the statements you made. You clearly can not read and interpret information correctly.

Because icons can "slide around" and, if you press too hard, they want to be deleted. Also, the numbers on the speed dialer do not have to be "read", you know where they are. As I already mentioned. Yeah, you can use them, but they are not as good as speed dialing... you can defend this phone all you want, but the more we users demand it get it's ass into the 21st Century -- like every other smart phone -- the more chances we'll get what we want. Look, I think the phone should have it, you don't? Well, whatever. I've tried the short cuts, they suck for driving.

Seems like user error, as you shouldn't be holding for a full second but, whatever.

You can file a request with Google on there development website. They review the requests and determine if it should be assigned to a developer or not. Search for that site review the list of requests to see if yours is a duplicate and then submit it to Google.

Let us know how your request with Google goes, since you would like this to be incorporated into the base OS.

If programmers found this to be important we would already have it.

Scrannel, go talk to bratag. Hes a pretty good developer and actually listens to what the users want and not just what he finds to be usefull. He'll be your best bet on getting this

Could offer to pay someone for there time to do it. However I have the feeling that you feel since it should be built into the phone it should be free.

Hope you think about the programmer you end up talking to. I'd love to come to your work and ask you to do it for free.

I don't work for free, and I certainly don't ask others to short themselves. Thanks for the tip.

Ok, either this app is new or I'm an idiot (likely answer) and missed it: Dial Favs. A much faster, more direct way to dial favs. ALMOST as good as a speed dialer... 50% of the way there.
