Memory usage.

I have a system monitor program on my G1 that tells me how much CPU, "memory" (I assume is ram) and, storage (both phone and card). The lowest the "memory" usage gets is about 71%. Why so high? Even when the system is idle and CPU usage is 0, the "memory" usage stays over 70%. Any ideas why?

Also, if I put a bigger memory card in the phone, will it run any faster? I'm amazed how well the thing runs considering how hard I am on it but I've noticed it getting a bit sluggish recently. I guess it is due to the storage space filling up...???

A bigger memory card should not effect performance the only thing the phone uses the memory card for is storing pictures and other media.
the phones probably showing 70% even when "idle" because programs you run never really close the system just kills them as it needs resources.
