Help with my memory card!!

I bought an 8gb Class 4 memory card yesterday and my g1 won't read it. I had another 512 mb card and it works fine. Any idea why its going?

Does you computer read it?

have you formatted it? is it correctly inserted? does it read properly on any other devices?

no my computer won't read it either! how do i format it

if your computer isn't reading it (from something other then the g1) you might have a faulty card, gotta see it to format it i believe.

well my computer reads it but i won't let me put anything on it.

right click format.

your gonna lose ALL information on it so do any backups.

$ sudo mkdosfs

this command will let you format a disk but you need to know the mount point i.e. mine is /dev/sdb1

so I'd do a $ sudo mkdosfs /dev/sdb1

Then I will have a fresh vfat formatted disk

if you are using windows and it comes up with a drive letter at least try this

format x: /FS:FAT /q /u

x: is the letter of your drive

yeah i think you card is faulty, is it the stock one that came with the phone or another one you bought elsewhere?

yeah its one i bought at fry's my format menu says it can't define the capacity

Please let us all know how it goes. Also tell us the brand name and any other info that is visible on the card and packaging.
