Will I be able to update my UNLOCKED g1?

I live in canada, and plan to use the unlocked phone i'll be receiving tommorow with ROGERS WIRELESS. So, what i'm wondering is: Will I be able to recieve these updates that Google intends to release in January? I don't plan on getting a data plan, so it'll have to be through WIFI, so can anyone give me instructions as to how it may go down?

I can't really answer the update thing but there have been many concerns about the G1 and data usage. It appears the G1 is constantly sending/receiving data, even when not in use. Be careful if you go with no plan (or a limited plan) as you may incur charges from unexpected usage.
