View Full Version : Should I Return My G1?

I got my g1 about 3 weeks ago, and I love it. However, there are some problems with it that I have noticed and I am debating whether or not to return it and get a new one.
I noticed that little annoying creak at the bottom right of the screen. So I took an excacto knife and cut off the piece of plastic like the instructions told me. The squeaking stopped, but the phone was still loose and cheap feeling, and it has been getting worse and worse as time goes on. The screen is getting looser when it's open every day.
Other than the hardware issues, my text messages are being received and sent late. (Sometimes hours) and that is a huge issue for me. Also even with my applications off, if I press home the icons take forever to load.
I don't know if that last one is an issue or not, but do you guys think I should take the time to get another one or just get over it and get used to it?

If you're not happy with it, return it for a new one or refund like you would any other product.

Try clearing out your browser cache an all.
That might make it run a bit more smoothly.
Returning it is up to you.

Info on this? My 1st G1 didnt make this noise but my 2nd has the creaking. I had some memory issues with my first G1 and the same problem with texts/pics showing up hours late or even the next day. Got this new G1 from TMO and havent had the same problems.
Get a replacement and see if that fixes it

Have had my phone a week and, compared with real smart phones, the current state of the G1 is a Smart Phony. It screws up email on my server; can only send small pics with out messing up; can't even receive mail properly; I had to create a ridiculous work around to get it to attach files to my emails (beside pictures of my son's cat and various songs); and it can't open any obvious office files. BUT... it is an opened ended adventure in the invention of the app community at large with a huge chance for them to shine. So, I will keep it and see where this nut house adventure goes. After all, there's always work arounds...

I think everyone should sell their G1s. I suggest this as a replacement:

No squeaks, unless there is a mouse in the bag. No bugs, unless you leave a large pizza from Domino's under the receiver. No hardware issues, unless one of 1lb. Ni-Cad batteries shorts out. Attachments? You bet, how much duct tape do you have? This baby's got 2-3 sq. ft. of pleather real estate to stick post-it notes, Times articles, Ziggy cartoon, Polaroids of your kids.
The possibilities are endless. Just think how many AC users' shoulder, bicep and back muscles will benefit?

Hey! I used to have one of those Motorolas! Everything you said about it is true, and more so!

LOLS lets make a die hard brick phone thread. Seriously though why post about what you should do? You need reassurance? Just return it or buy a different phone end of story. I had a squeek and just got another back plate.

despite the few problems, which if my screen gets loser i'll just demand another one, cause they send me one to my door and have me send my old one off. im plannin on keeping mine, i havent experience any real problems with it, theres a few short comings, but im more than convinced they will be fixed... in the end, only you can figure out if your willing to wait around or, or switch to something else, i havent seen anything better than the g1 so far.... my sidekicks were really stable and dependable...but they cant do 1 percent the stuff the g1 can...
