Would it be possible to create an iTunes app for Android? That would be so useful in my opinion.

I have several reasons not to buy an iPhone.
1. Android is open source
2. The iPhone is only for AT&T
3. The iPhone is way too hyped
4. I needed a physical keyboard
I just want to know whether it would be possible and whether or not someone would be up for programming that

So let's buy a G1 and ask for apple applications for it?

I have an extensive 'voluminous' iTunes library too. Think something around 60+ gigs of music.
....but can't seem to fit 60+ gigs on a 2 gig stick.
wonder why.

I'm not saying it's not possible.
I'm wondering if it's practicle.
It's a resource hog, and that might kill the G1. If not in processing power, then in battery life.

Here, use Itunes Agent. http://ita.sourceforge.net (http://ita.sourceforge.net/)
It's opensource, free and works great. It does the trick.

Thank you.
Maybe I will get a grammy.
I'm pretty sure I'm better at entertaining then Lil Wayne.

"An iTunes app" that does what specifically? Stream music across the network from iTunes? I believe various open source projects (like Plex, previously known as OSXBMC) can accomplish this, so it'd be fairly easy to port the code to the DalvikVM that Android uses. I'm relatively certain the Android media APIs (http://code.google.com/android/toolbox/apis/media.html) would allow for playing non-DRM-encumbered music.

If the OP is even paying attention to this thread anymore, I'm wondering if they were asking for software to connect a desktop/laptop iTunes to the G1 to sync music over, or if they're looking for a different media app for use on the phone.
If it's the former, try out Salling MediaSync, there's a free (slower) and paid (faster) version of it, and it syncs selected iTunes playlists over to the G1 when it's connected via USB.
On a side note, as entertaining as this thread was (thank you, Juice), let's dial down the hostility I've been seeing toward anything without a Google (EVERYTHING with an Apple) brand on it, mmmkay?
That's all. :D

Well juice if you feel the need to chalange yourself then go ahead. But i would like to hear your letter when you finnaly get around to writing it. Ill nominate you for a grammy! lil waynes a joke. iTunes on the g1 is a joke. 2 men walk into a bar is a joke. This thread is a joke i dont even remember what its about. but the general consensus seems to be that someone is an idiot and itunes sucks. Im an itunes user but i dont really see a need for it on my phone. Any music player will do. actually i use the default one for the small amount of music i have on my phone. What i want to know is why is everyone so concerned about the music player? isnt that why god invented ipods so that we can use our phones for pictures of kittens that can has cheezeburgers?

Considering you cannot play iTunes songs on the G1 due to DRM, why would you want an iTunes app?

it's interesting how people approach music and PCs. who the F shops at the iTunes store? rip the CD, download the .MP3s, do whatever, but in the end, you just have a flat file in .MP3 format. i couldn't wait to get my G1 just so i could copy over 4 GB worth of .MP3s.
who the heck needs an app to copy and paste on your computer? this little thing is just a mass storage device, so drag your files and you're set.
iTunes app. LOL

Incorrect: the iTunes Store has been selling DRM-free tracks for quite some time now via 'iTunes Plus'.

Apple would just as soon release itunes for the g1 as they would stop making computers. It just won't happen.

Protectedmusic converter. If you have drm protected music it puts it into mp3 format. Drop into sd card. Problem solved.

I was thinking of an app that could somehow play the DRMed iTunes music. Would that even be possible, and if not, would it be possible sometime in the future? I just have a big iTunes library because I like how well the iPod and iTunes integrate and was wondering if I could get this on my phone.

Legally, no, not unless Apple licenses their DRM (which is on its way out as per today's MacWorld keynote). If you burn the tracks to a CD and import the CD as unprotected AAC or MP3 you don't have to worry about DRM issues.

Not in the future, but in the past, yes. There used to be program out there that literally stripped the DRM out of the files and left them as unprotected AAC files. This was not a ripper, a transcoder, or a recorder. It logged into your iTunes to get "permission" to play and then took the DRM right out. It was a magical, wonderful thing. And then Apple put a C&D on them the size of Jupiter, and that CEASED TO DEVELOP.
I doubt anyone's going to take up the flag again.
