Hello,

Last week i received the extended battery sold by fommy.com. - The battery came fully charged, and that charge lasted me 1 1/2 days with some web browsing and some apps and games. I left it running untill fully discharged so the phone could detect the new capacity. Then i charged the phone by connecting it to my computer's USB port at work. Now the battery life is less than the stock battery, not only that, it only last 4 to 5 hours with no phone calls and only bluetooth on.

At the end i wasted almost 60 bucks for a paper weight since i wont use it any more. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!

use a wall charger to charge it.....

your computer will charge it, yes

but not like a wall charger will.

Correct. I've always made it a point to never do a proper charge over the USB cable. The G1 gets the wall charger overnight

I'd have a hard time spending so much on a battery, even though it's kind of annoying to have less than superb battery life.

Cheaper to just buy a 2nd battery

or even cheaper to call tmo and complain for a REPLACEMENT, they say no, you explain again, they say we are aware of the problems but a replacement is the exact same battery and wont do anything, you re-word what you've been saying with a SLIGHT angry voice while still "being cool", and you get a free one anyways

I'm definitely interested in hearing how it performs after a few full charges. Most people need to remember that our batteries took some conditioning before they were able to run a day on a charge.

When I got my battery from fommy's, it looked used and the sticker had the exact same part number as my stock one...I do not belive that they are different batteries...complete scam (their battery performed worse than my stock one even after about 4 full cycles)

I called tmobile cc and they sent me another replacement which actually seems to hold up quite well (14-16 hours)

if you search ebay (currently) for New OEM Battery For T-Mobile G1 Google HTC 1150mAh, you will come across at least one seller with a very high feedback rating. those are (currently) going for $19.99 w/ free shipping. purchasing 2 right now. these are actual HTC batteries, not generics. these are the same as the ones t-mobile has (re-packaged in their own blister packs) at their brick and mortar stores.

t-mobile stores sell a portable (very, very small) device that stores 4 independent charges. from this, you can re-charge your G1 up to 4 times, each charge taking 1 hour (per t-mobile). i scoffed at it when i went in to purchase my phone initially. my battery life is running as expected now, and a little better actually. i'm getting a FULL day out of my phone (off the charger around 7:00 AM, back on around 11:00 PM/12:00 AM) and i use it - i uuuuuse it. i was already pretty controlling of my resources manually and w/ shortcuts. power profiles are frickin' awesome and i will use them until i find a solution that sways me otherwise. i do want to have that little battery "backup" though, just to have it. so, i'll pick that up from t-mobile this week and report back on how it goes.

so, there's 2 batteries (OEM brand (HTC)), a portable charger, a car charger (will be here tomorrow along w/ more goodies from the android store), a USB cable and an AC charger. with all of this being easy to carry when i travel for work, there is no reason i should ever be without charge or on my way into a situation where i do not have sufficient charge/won't be able to charge. all of this for a nominal price or effort. well worth what i get out of this portable device. anyone got a laptop they use ALL DAY LONG that will keep a charge from morning to almost midnight? 'cause i'm pretty impressed with the charge i keep, keeping in mind this is a little computer in my pocket (in my hands a lot really).

to recap:

- OEM batteries are inexpensive
- charging connectivity shouldn't be a problem for anyone
- soft settings round out the mesh that is optimizing the G1's performance

You still end up with ONE battery, unless you don't have to send the original back, in which case, I have a strong aversion to building up bad karma :P

Hahaha. You don't want be all the strokes who are lying to Tmo CS to get refurb <RC30 G1s, ghoonk? Just help a couple of old ladies across the street to even yourself with the universe afterward, come on! ;)

Nah, can't stand old ladies. Cranky and senile things, they are. Best left alone. better not to steal or cheat :D Besides, it's not worth the hassle, especially knowing fully well that some people here are just being stubborn and insisting that they have conditioned their battery right, and have moderate usage patterns.

Did I mention that I was on a 1 hour and 19 minute call over the 2G network yesterday and all it did was bring my battery life down from 100% to 82%? :D That good conditioning and good karma :D :D :D

Plus, I already have 1 device on RC30, and another on RC19 (my backup G1), and am saving up some for the new Android-powered devices in the coming months

Well that is A LOT of buying and carrying around with you just so you are guaranteed a charged battery at all times. And no, I haven't had a lap top that I used all day, because its a LAPTOP, not a CELL PHONE. Its ridiculous to even compare the two.

I shouldnt have to go through all these to ensure I have a charged battery, when my brother's Blackberry Bold lasts him several days before he needs to recharge it.

I have a colleague next to me now (Product Manager for Blackberry services) who's on a Bold, and he gets 1 day at best over 3G. The only way your brother's Bold is getting 'several days' is if he stays only on 2G/EDGE, doesn't tool around with the phone much, and has minimal use, which defeats the purpose of having a phone like this anyway.

I have, in my pocket, a spare battery in a little plastic wrapper, fully charged, that I swop with the one in my phone every few days. It weighs less than my keys and takes up as much space as a pack of gum, and I've only had cause to use it on days when I'm nowhere near a charger and using the phone extensively, especially with GPS on.

Correct. He turns off 3G unless he is going to be doing so web surfing. He uses SMS and Email heavily, and gets 2~3 days. There are dozens of people on this forum complaining about extremely poor battery life (8~12 hours) even with 3G, GPS, and Wifi OFF, screen brightness low, etc. All the little battery saving tips just dont work for some people, myself included.

I've since switched to EDGE myself and have noticed significantly improved battery life, with not much complaints over the data rate. That said, with 3G on, moderate use of voice, SMS and web browsing and email, the Bold does as well as my G1.

But overall, on EDGE, it seems to perform better, though I would never trade the web browser on my G1 for the POS browser on the Bold, not to mention the fact that I have more interesting apps and touchscreen on my G1 which favours reading of new articles without having to keep scrolling the BB's trackball like a sex maniac on a ***t. :D

sorry to dig up an old thread here, but the fommy battery is a total scam.. my thoughts are that it's an OEM G1 battery remarked to look like a 1600mah battery.. it looks identical (dimensions are identical) to my OEM battery so I there is no way it's got almost 1/3 more life in it... it's not physically possible. Fommy itself is a scamhouse selling shoddy and extremely cheap products at mainstream prices.. I will never do business with them again!
