Are you supposed to get notifications for updates or version increase for downloaded applications?
I noticed that if I look at the Market at my downloaded applications some say installed and some say free. They are all installed and if I select one that says free it tells me it will overwrite the existing version. Problem is I don't know how to tell what version number I have for an existing application.
Going to about tells me no version information.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ones that say FREE are newer, so you might as well let them install/overwrite.

'Zacktly. Any time you get an app says "free" in My Downloads and then you get an overwrite notice once you click "install", Android has compared versions and you are ready for update lift-off.

oi update will let you know of any updates for almost all the apps on your g1..
downside is that sometimes it takes you to some other site other than the market, but some will download straight from the market.. it gives you the option.

That app is garbage as far as I'm concerned. It was telling people that the latest version of GasBot was 0.6 when I had 0.9 out already.

it works a little, but yeah its not accurate... for me i just go to the apps i use the most and hit help on them and usually it the g1 will check for update or have an option in the apps to check of updates...
about to do a hard reset anyway so the g1 will be wiped clean

I never really notice the difference between the old and the new updated versions...
But yeah, just click install!

I would think theres bug fixes or added features, especially if it's a Force Quit error

I've heard stories, but I'd never had the luck of receiving an forced error message across my screen...
