Has a custom back/sides and is unlocked. Too bad it's like $400!

Whoa dude, I did not know that... hey I paid some $400 for my regular G1; I want that one with the neat design on the back (I don't care about unlocking since I use T-Mobile anyway).

Return it and then buy this one through your developer dashboard if you have one!

and I'll take the rest of it. I wouldn't want your desk to be crowded up with useless cell phone parts.

So, what else is available in the "dashboard"? And what other secrets are you keeping from us non-developers?

Haha, there's really not much on the dashboard. Actually there's no where near enough information about the applications. You basically get to see how many people have downloaded it. And how many still have it installed. That's it.

The thing to buy the phone is just a link on there that takes you into a different part of the developer area that allows you to order the phone.

So not only do developers have to pay $25 as a sort of initiation fee, but now they get charged an additional $400 for an unlocked phone? And this is somehow meant to attract developers to the platform?

Well, it's actually not that bad of a price when you consider the price of most unlocked retail phones. Americans are used to paying little for phones because they get locked into contracts and the carrier subsidizes the price of the phone in order to make more than that in monthly fees.

Most retail unlocked phones are $600 on up. So the $400 for a phone that's completely unlocked to the point where you could rebuild android and load it onto the device isn't too horribly bad.
