is anyone else tired of seeing/hearing rampant mac fanboyness? Man I mention the G1 and I get jumped on like it's a redheaded bastard step child from hell or something.

Both iPhone users I am close to know well their device's spotty history (because they had to put up with its problems at first too) and don't try to put down the G1.

that's great rynosaur. just a lot of my iphone friends are elitists and think it's "iphone" or nothing. But honestly, do I want an iphone like everyone else???

although...if this battery issue doesn't get fixed, I'm going to get one. this is ridiculous

You will get this, all owners of any Apple products will jump on you because they feel threatened by the G1 because it is better then their overpriced smug phone.

I think this picture sums it up well:

Thank you, Josh. That ad was the perfect compliment to the news Simpsons last night, which was a 21-minute slam on Apple. BTW, if anyone thinks the Simpsons has sucked for a decade . . . you're missing out on the occasional gem, and last night was no exception.

These were the same people that were scared of the Iphone when it came out and then waited till well after second gen came out to jump on the band wagon. The same people you still see out playing with light saber applications and such. Don't worry about pleasing the mouth breathers of the world and you'll be a lot better off.

yeah two of my friends were showing off lighters and lightsabers and koi ponds on their iphones. I used shopsavvy to scan a 25.00 book. I got it for 2 bucks on half.com

Yeah, my brother showed me his favorite iPhone game. The point of it seemed to be helping bees to avoid gravity. Talk about envy, I'm still green!

this is what I need on a phone...a bee gravity game.

I'm just more about things that can help me out with productivity in life (and mind you, there are plenty of productivity things on the iphone).

I do own an itouch, and have productivity things on it, but it takes me like 10 minutes to pound out a two sentence note in notpad

Your all doing exactly what your complaining about, jumping on the iPhone like fanboys. The people that say "OMG iPhOnE suksss, android pawnssss!!!1" are just as bad as fanboys of the opposition.

If you say your not fanboys, why are there countless posts making excuses for androids shortcommings? You don't owe google anything, so why do it. Is it you are stuck in Google hype, just like what you hate about the iPhone.

I own both phones, each one has their upsides, but the iPhone is more solid.

At the moment android is not as mature as the iPhone OS. People that say the iPhone sucks and we have got shopsavvy are just plain fanboy blind. The iPhone is the better platform at this moment, feature for feature the iphone wins, because it implements it better, and smoother. Yes, android is only a month old, but still it is a developers platform, and no where near as polished as iPhoneOS. Android has got potential, but none of it is being used atm.

The SDK is no where near as polished either, which makes development not as fluid.
People do buy apple products for a reason, they wouldn't have a following they do if they never done something right. Apple are good at making OS's, and it shows.

Fanboys on either side are as bad as each other.

paranoid,

sorry, it's just me lashing out. I don't owe google anything, I just get tired of being made to feel like I'm a substandard life form for not wanting an iphone. I get it, it's more polished...but it's like a mac cult or something (and I depend on my mac for work!).

good points, and it is more polished. And I've not made up my mind whether I'm going to keep the g1, it just is frustrating. Sorry for my lashing out, you're right...it's the same thing. It just gets old

lol...I have never understood the whole fanboy thing...how can someone be so attached to a material object (In this case its more of a brand preference thing and not even a tangable object)

I prefer pepsi over coke...but bet your a$$ if I go into a gas station and coke is cheaper, im going to buy it

I really do like my G1...but I also like my iPhone...and when something new comes along worth switching to, my G1 will go in the closet with my iPhone and the waist high stack of phone boxes that already live there. I love playing with new gadgets...but once I learn them and get used to using it, i tend to look for something new...just me

As for the hate that revolves around devices (iPhone vs. everything else) I really only see it online. I have a few friends and even my boss that have iPhones and we have never "bashed" eachother for what the other person is using...nor have I ever been jumped in a dark alley by a bunch of iPhone toting geeks because I got caught using my G1

I catch it a bunch. I guess because I work with a bunch of designers and they are all mac enthusiasts (like I said, I work on a mac myself). I just wanted something different and like you, new. (and I already own an ipod touch...so I didn't want two mac devices)

I wouldn't be too afraid of being jumped by iPhone geeks . . . their only attacks would be whatever is in their multi-touch arsenal -- pinches, I'm guessing. Deadly Apple Pinching fatalities.

I'm not a big "second" poster, but I read this post and I had to say: I agree 100% with every word of this post. I have a G1. I like it, and I have hopes for it, but at the moment, it doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone. Even the google apps on the iPhone are WAY better than ours. --And they have more of them. Good thing I'm locked into 2 years. --It'll give Android time to catch up. Let's just hope when it does, Apple hasn't gone so far ahead that we're still this far behind.

To each it's own... I'm a mac person myself but have a G1. My wife has an iPhone and she loves it... I love my G1 and all my other Mac stuff.

Good point paranoid...

You agree with every word? Even this?

"Android has got potential, but none of it is being used atm."

Pullllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeze!

Even the biggest G1-hating-G1-owner has to admit that the G1 is at worst 50% fresh and that hardly means NONE of its potential is currently being used.

I do agree with that. I don't know what's so fresh about it. It's just barely getting by as a phone, and most of the built-in apps are so barebones and bug-ridden, they hardly even qualify as beta software.
As a phone, it's definitely the coolest I've ever had, but that's because it's a smartphone. I've never had one before. As an OS, it's very very new, and it has a long way to go. I love it. I feel it's an evolution in thinking for the industry. --Thus my design of the "evolution" logo. --And thus me taking my own time as a moderator for this forum. But as a product, on its own merits right now, it's pretty green.

Well, I hope there is enough perceived good in the package as it exists presently, otherwise we're all gonna left holding a useless third-place runner up once the dreaded Mircrosoft throws its hat in the ring.

As a former Commodore Amiga booster, I can tell you it wasn't the dread Apple Mac (its closest competitor by most measures) which killed it . . . it was the utter domination of PC clones and Microsoft's OS that pushed everyone but Apple out of the PC market and face it . . . Apple only survived by the grace of god, really.

I can see that easily happening with smartphones, even if it ends up being a tripartite domination: RIM, Apple, and (yes, believe it kids) Microsoft.
