When I first purchased this phone, I didn't think the creaking was all that bad, or maybe it really wasn't all that bad, nevertheless it's gotten downright unbearable.
Who else has noticed this? It makes the phone feel cheap.
And no, I do not wish to take a knife to my $400 phone, nor do I believe I should have to add tape to cheapen the aesthetics even further.

I keep hearing about this creak, but have not experienced it. Yet. Where does it come from?

- the newer phones seem not to have this problem
-the shaving of that small piece is very small and fixes it right up. You cannot even see anything was changed.

the creak comes from a very small lip of plastic near the hinge opening right above the camera betton. It is very very small but causes the creak. I used a small nive to shave down the peice took about 10 secs and it fixed it.
If you place a business card between the screen and chin you should be able to find out where the creak comes from.

I'm not sure Mr. Cool Guy, why don't you remove your ridiculous shades and learn how to use Google? What f*cking difference does it make anyways?

Just put a little piece of scotch tape on the sliderscreen opposite the plastic nub, it will fix the creaking problems. It worked for me.

Well I was going to try to help, but not with an attitude like that.
You should take a handful of pills and drink a bottle of whiskey. And if you wake up, do it again.
I'm working on a lubricant-based solution.. see this thread:

See, that's the thing. I don't want to scotch tape my $400 robot phone. I'd rather just have one that isn't defective.

Who do you take me for? Your Father? Come'on, give me a break.

I think the main problem is stress. There's pressure right where that nubbin is, and it's all focused on that one little spot. Shaving it away with a knife will get rid of the one pressure point, and then all the stress is distributed across the entire width of the screen, so there's no creaking. The problem with this, however, is that now, instead of having wear marks on one spot, they'll be along the entire width of the screen.
If you can get some kind of a teflon-ish pad (similar to those on the bottoms of mice) that's thick enough, and place it in the area near the menu button between the lip and the screen, it has the same effect without requiring cutting the phone and also will prevent wear marks from appearing. I used a sliver of a screen protector, and it works well enough. Although, it's not quite thick enough to make the creak go away 100%.

I think you've got the right idea. Something non-reactive and quasi-permanent. There has got to be such an adhesive offered commercially, please let us know if you find it and I will do the same.

I'm sure 3M or DuPont make it...
