albeit, I'm a light user...I got 20 hours out of it
this is what I did (I'll try to remember everything)
only used 3g when needed
only used wireless when needed
turned off data roaming
turned screen brightness down to lowest setting (can see well at that setting)
only used gps when needed
turned off that location wireless gps thing (I forget what it was called)
I use that app "toggle settings" to manage everything.
I was pretty happy with that. It should also be noted that I just swapped my G1 for a new G1 and I think I may have gotten one with a new improved battery (and much needed headphone jack)

i leave 3g on
leave wifi off
have data roaming on
i also turn screen brightness all the way down
have gps off unless i actually need it (don't care for location based programs, there still a novelty with today's power technology)
leave on wifi location
and i still get 20 hours... minor differences, but i wouldn't call any of them an "inconvenience"

I have drained and recharged my battery fully. That has helped. I also try to keep it cool . . . that helps (so does RC30, heat-wise).
I have never unintentionally ran out of battery. It's good, but not great.
PS . . . the screen is a big draw, but the radio is the biggest draw.

20 hours? I get 3 days when I turn off all of that.

Wow. I can leave everything on and as long as I don't stream or use video, I will get a day. Not that I do that often. I like to push its limits :)

when i use it religiously( i usually do ), with everything but gps on and backlight halfway i get 5-7 hours . when i use it lightly , i get all day and put it on the charger , with power left ,when i go to bed . but , i got tmobile to send me another battery , so i use it heavily mostly and carry a spare battery when i think it is i'll need it

well I've not gotten any 3 days out of it, but I'm happy with almost 20 hours.
I'm planning on picking up a spare battery as I find out I can drain it quickly when I go into moderate use (I mainly surf)

I get great battery life.. At first it was bad but it has improved a lot.. The only thing that I find that really drains my battery is bluetooth..I have gotten 3 days with all the stuff turned off but with regular use (without bluetooth) I get a full day and that is all I really want since I charge my phone when I sleep...

I have everything turned off except roaming and active sync and the brightness at the lowest setting it it only lasts about 15 hours or so. Which i think is total crap. Imagine if turned everything on?
