Will we get a new 3G sim card or will our old sims work?

I HOPE we dont need to get a new one...unless they can transfer all my #'s -- I've got stuff on there since my Nokia 5100. :)

I don't know that you'll need another SIM, but they do occasionally use newer models that have more space or whatever. I'm going to have to copy all my contacts from my Windows Mobile phone, which will probably take an hour, but it'll be worth it!

I expect old sims will work. I'm trying to work through the $299 vs $179 pickle by using my family plan. Basically, I preordered one $299 phone. Then I realized another line qualifies for the $179 price, so I preordered one on that one, and will transfer it to my line when it arrives. I had 3 support reps tell me I can just put my old sim card in the G1, and it should work (I may have to call it in and have them sync up the serial numbers to my line).

But is it true 3G requires a different sim card? Could all 3 reps have been wrong/misinformed?

You will not need a different kind of SIM card.

Since you are using WM you shouldn't need to manually copy all your contacts. If you don't already have your contacts synced in outlook from using exchange go ahead and sync your contacts between your phone and PC. Outlook and Outlook Express give you the option to export your contacts as a CSV file. Google allows you to import contacts as a CSV file.

This will help you save time and you won't have to worry about mistyping numbers.

Your sim can only hold about 200 contacts.

the sim card can hold 250 phone numbers

no there is no need for a new "3g" sim card, the only purpose the sim card serves is to "activate and register" your phone on the network in order to make phone calls and connect to all other features

any "upgrades" that a sim card has taken is speed only, not capacity

t-mobile has plans for a 512mb sim card which will more than likely not be released anytime soon... chances are you will need to change your phone in order to use this

all t-mobile RETAIL stores should have sim card copiers that will directly transfer information from one sim card to another

most retail stores also recieved the cellbrite synchronization machine which copies most information from one from to the next... since the stores received these a couple a months ago at the earliest, they will not be compatible with the G1 without a firmware upgrade through the internet

I've never taken a SIM card out of one phone and put it in another. I have heard that this is how you can transfer a phone number from one phone to another. So, when my new phone comes, I assume it will come with a new SIM card which tmo is expecting (???) me to install. Will it matter to them if I don't install that SIM card and install the SIM card out of my current phone? Will I keep my current phone number this way? Do I need to tell tmo anything when I do this, or don't they care?

i've kept the same SIM since like 2001, probably 4 phones ago -- and if my phone was dead, i used to take my mom's (who didnt use it often) and pop my card in and use it like it was my phone

I tried this, but it doesn't transfer the contacts properly. I'm just going to edit the CSVs manually and copy and paste from the Outlook one to the Google one, then reupload.
