Is anyone else's G1 screen slanted when they open it to reveal the keyboard? Mines is and I'm thinking of bring it back.

Do you mean when you open it and put it on a flat surface the screen is tilted towards the surface? Then they're all like that I think. Only slightly though, so if its really tilted then yeah, take it back.

I've heard of it, but I don't have that problem, and I'm on G1 number three. How long have you had your G1? I would absolutely ask for a replacement!

I wouldn't say mine is slanted in the way you described...
When my G1 is in the closed position, the top half touch screen part is a bit off center, when holding it in your hand, you can tell it doesn't sit "flush" with the rest of the phone.
It's barely noticeable on mine unless I run my fingers down the side and I can feel it.
I'm going to wait and see if anyone else has this before I even consider going through the return process though.

It slants towards one side and now when it close it it's not flush on the sides. I thought it was just me. I bought it last saturday and i also have insurance on it.

Yup, I've made a thread a few weeks ago about this also. When my G1 is opened up, the left side of the screen is tilted down. I've heard this is normal? But it definetly shouldn't be.

Mine is the same way. It wasn't at first, so I'm sure it's a sign of wear. Possibly poor design, but when you compare to other slide qwerty phones, we have four rows of nicely spaced keys versus three rows of keys right on top of one another, so there wasn't too much choice for G/HTC when they made the phone with a full qwerty.
But, I noticed this "flaw" even in their press-release photos!

Yeah, mine slightly tilts down on the left when its open...Its not realy noticable unless you are looking for it though and it does not seem lose, so I am not going to worry about it. Mine was a bit off center when it was closed...but what I did is put a thin piece of adhesive backed felt between the chin and the screen above the call button (also pads the screen from slamming closed if i dont ride it down) :)
All of the sidekicks had a similar issue with the screen over-rotating slightely to the right, but it never caused any problems.

Mine is like that as well but what bugs me is when the screen is closed you can "flap" it if you shake the phone... I'm waiting until next year to call t-mo and exercise my 1 year warranty :D

I'm planning on taking it back this weekend. It's really annoying and now that when I close it it's not flush on both sides it really gets me pissed.

If we all claim to have this and even the pics from before the release appear to be the same way... Maybe the phone is SUPPOSED to be that way..? It's at an angle what's so frustrating about it?

I noticed it immediately but then I looked at the picture in the store and sure enough, same thing. Whatever, I don't even notice while I'm using it.

Less that a mm for sure. At first I though it was an optical illusion.

mine sits flush, and I've had mine since 10/20. If mine looked like that, I'd probably take it back too.

That's exactly how my phone looks, tilted on the left. It bothers me, but I guess I can live with it.

Mine too. It's only a degree or two.
Someone asked, "who would notice" WRT holding the phone level. It's not the screen in relation to the world that we see, it's the screen in relation to the rest of the phone, so yeah, it's noticeable at all times. I just ignore it, myself... I mean, HELLO, it's a mechanical device and mechanical devices wear out. If they had compensated for it by making it out of adjustment the OTHER way to begin with, everyone would b*tch that it's crooked right out of the box.
So for me it's no big deal. The phone works, it does everything I need it to do. IT IS A TOOL. It is not a fashion accessory, at least, not for me, so I'm not worrying about it.

It's definitely the design of the phone. I ordered a replacement and it's screen was the same way. I went to the tmo store and the display phones did it too. Just an unfortunate design flaw. The phone works perfectly so I am going to forget about it. Looking forward to the new apps coming in 2009. The longer I have the G1 the more I like it, even the way it looks.

I read this in a review too.. and as someone stated in their own photo's... that's just how the phone is.. if I were more OCD that would infuriate me.. but I got over it.
