The question is: is there a way to copy google contacts to sim card?

I don't think there is currently. What exactly are you trying to do? Move your contacts to a non- G1 phone? In that case there may be other options. If you are just trying to back up your contacts, there's really no need since G is backing them up for you... online. Even better than the SIM card because they still have your contacts even if you lose your phone.

this would be a good option to save contacts to the sim card, because if you want to swap the sim to another phone it makes it easier. sometimes i need to use my tmo wing since it still has ms office mobile and the ability to download non g1 supported files while on the go, ability to upoload files to servers.. and wont have any of my contacts saved to the sim so i cant remember the numbers of whos callin etc.

It's kinda bass-ackwards, but you can always export your google contacts to a csv file, then import them into Outlook, then if you phone will sync with Outlook, you'll have your contacts in your other phone. Definitely a kludge, but I think it's the only way right now. I do see the need for this and I wouldn't be surprised if there are people working on it.

Hm... is there an API for manipulating the SIM?

@kaysesoze (http://androidcommunity.com/forums/members/kaysesoze/): that's exactly what I had in mind.
@MrGibbage (http://androidcommunity.com/forums/members/mrgibbage/): a native app would make it less painful. :)

AFAIK, MyBackup only backs up to microSD, not SIM. While it's good enough for my purposes at the moment, I don't see why it should not be possible for a G1 to write data back onto a SIM card.

I use Contact2Sim -- works perfectly and it's free. No need to do any of that crazy csv stuff.

I've been using the free version of contact2sim and it works well, I think there is a paid version also.
