OK just got off the phone w/ a T-Mobile rep who confirmed the following:

1. They DO NOT send out e-mails with UPS tracking numbers.

2. You CAN track your package as soon as its been shipped.

3. In order to track your package, your going to use your phone number.

Example 555-923-1022

Please note: It MUST include the dashes between the numbers.

4. You can NOT just type this into the general UPS tracking field.

This is how you do it:

Go to the UPS website
On the top left hand side click on "Tracking"
Then Click on "Track by Reference"
Finally type in your cell phone number including dashes (555-923-1022)

Update: Don't try to do it now because you'll get an error. Wait till Oct 20th to try this per T-Mobile rep in post #10.

I included a visual step-by-step below:

Hi, I'm the rep you talked to about tracking. Cool to see this site. I hope T-Mobile can build loyalty within this demographic of open source software advocates.

I talked to some management after work tonight and they told me to not expect to be able to track the phones before the 20th. T-Mobile and UPS are working hard to meet the 22nd delivery date goal by storing phones near or in UPS distribution sites around the country. Don't get any ideas, I will personally hunt you down ;)

If it didn't come from T-Mobile, Google, or HTC websites, don't believe it.

This not what either of the three have told the media, so the information is most likely not accurate.

Remember nothing is set in stone but don't hold your breath for an early shipping because you might turn blue! :)

After you preorder, T-Mobile says it will be delivered on Oct 22nd. I'll go with their word :) As refused said, the other date was unfortunately a rumor.

If you can't wait till the 22nd to see your G1, at least you can see it on its way if you follow the instructions on post one a few days before its delivered.

And for some reason, my house is at the very end of the UPS delivery day. Usually we don't get our delivery until close to 6:00PM. Man, you guys will be on your second chargings by then.

Hey dont worry im in the same boat. Also my luck it will be signed delivery and Ill have to wait until the next day to be there to sign for it. Because I wont be home on the 22nd to sign for it if its signed delivery. Anyone know if there is a way to find out if its signed signature required?

I'm pretty sure someone has to sign for it. I wasn't home when my last phone was delivered but they let my neighbor sign for it.

UPS will charge a $10 interception fee which is not guaranteed.

In other words, if they can't change the delivery address they won't charge you the $10.

Uh, just to clarify, they're not sending these express, so there's no way ground shipping is going out on the 20th and arriving the 22nd. That's just not realistic. Ground takes anywhere from 3-7 days for delivery.

I ordered the first day, 9/23. I called T-Mo on the 24th and asked about rerouting my shipment. UPS is notoriously bad at delivering to my apartment building, if they deliver at all. I really don't want to have to go to the sorting center in East Jesus.

I was told to start checking the UPS website, using the phone number refrence tracking mentioned in this thread. T-Mo told me, since I was in the first group, that I can start checking the 15th. That they are sending the first wave out on the 14th or 15th. Once there is any shipping info on the UPS website, I can simply call T-Mo with the tracking number and ask them to reroute to my office downtown where UPS has less trouble delivering things.

HEllo PPL and I am here to solve all your problemos!!!!!!

My girl is a sidekick/pda rep and i have the answers and you have the questions!!! i used to be one but she is there because she like to talk to ppl. but me i like to make money so I went to a company that makes money!!!!

You would receive a sms, txt, message letting you know about the g1 status and yes it should arrive on that day!!! you can use your mobile number as a tracking number and you could see it shipping it.
Now yes when you call like me as a customer of t-mobile i do the same procedure to look it up online in ups website!!!! now if your not there i feel for your chance to get it the first time... i know it sucks that you have to wait but once you receive it, it really doesnt matter how late it was in between the delivery!!! I pre order it myself and I would have to get my girl to go in late that day to work because I want to receive it. But you could also call the ups customer service and check where the phone is shipped to so you could pick it up yourself if you dont have time in the day because some lame excuse!!! that is all mail!!! so chill!! and wait!!! just like those iphone fanatics out there had to wait in line for days to get the phone you could wait to get your phones!!!! so there !!!!!! any more questions!!!

How do you know they are not sending them express? Every phone I have ever ordered from TMobile has been sent to me using two-day express shipping (unless I paid the extra shipping charge - then it was sent overnight.)

Because the shipping was free. I do a lot of ordering for work, and if it's free shipping, it's ground shipping or USPS.

I don't believe that's accurate, I've had things rerouted before with no extra charge.

hey messiah - my tracking says the same thing but if you click the link that says "shipping info received 10-14-08" it will tell you that it simply means a label has been created and that UPS does not yet have possession of the package. it will update with an expected delivery date when they get possession of the package. so i'm not getting my hopes up for a friday delivery!! however, i hope you're right!!!!!

hey it helped me! Before I found this I called tmobile and they said that my g1 was backordered but i still may get it on the 22 they just weren't sure. Then I found this theard and finally I was able to track my order. I guess the problem I was having was entering the date range when I preordered and when I should expect it. But I get mine tomorrow :) but too bad I work. So i'll have my mom or dad sign it for me! But hopefully it gets here before I go to work!
