I bought one on Amazon, but it's giving me static in my headphone when the USB charge/sync side is plugged into a computer or the charger. It's noticeable when the phone's music volume is low. I'm wondering if this is common, or if I just bought a dud.
This is the one I bought:
Amazon.com: T-Mobile G1 3-in-1 USB Charge & Synch with 3.5mm Stereo Jack Adapter: Apparel

I have one of these. I use it mostly in the car with the car charger, and 3.5mm input leading to my aux/ipod adapter in my Acura. works great

I still have the charger/11 pin pigtail from my T-Mobile Dash. I just ordered the $5.95 3.5mm jack to plug into the 11 pin side of the pigtail. I also ordered the custom fit screen protectors (I still have the protective shipping cover on my screen :D ).
So if you had a Dash (or any other HTC manufactured device), save yourself a little money and just order the cheap 3.5mm jack.
This is the "pigtail" I am talking about.

Static or a buzz, right? I'm having the same issues with mine as well, and it's driving me crazy.

i believe most of the 2in1 don't have a 3.5mm jack. i believe most 2in1 have
1. 11-pin mini USB port for connecting a hands-free headset
2. 5-pin mini USB port for connecting a charger or data sync cable
but no 3.5mm unless you get the 3-in-1 or you have an adapter for the 5-pin/11-in to a 3.5mm jack to use your headset/earphones but that would just be dumb. might as well just get the 3-in-1 adapter cause it has the 3.5mm jack.

I get a slight buzz when using standard headphones, but it's generally not noticeable at normal listening volumes.
However, I have noticed my 3-in-1 flips the left and right channels of audio in normal headphones. It's completely annoying. Haven't tested with the headset.

I'm having problems with this adapter 3 in 1. I just got it in the mail and tried it out and I have major problems. I don't think anyone else experiences this. Its pluged in all the way. Every 5 to 10 seconds it would skip a track on my g1. I can't close it or turn the screen off. It would keep skipping tracks. The only way to stop it is to unplug it. Can anyone help me on this?

Had that problem for awhile. I couldn't figure out the cause, rebooted the phone, disconnected the plug, reconnected, started Music player and all has been fine since.

The static that you all are referring to while charging via your Computer is due to the fact that you are charging from your computer, the problem is that you are using "dirty power." In the audio world you never want to plug anything audio related into a power source that has any circulating parts. This is most evident in a live venue where they plug the audio equipment into the same power source as the air conditioning unit. Whenever the AC kicks on there will be a slight buzz/hum, however, when the AC is off there is no buzz at all. It is often a head scratcher for most audio engineers when they hear buzzing sometimes, but sometimes they dont, it is more often then not caused by the source of power. Being plugged into the computer for your power source will cause a slight buzz, not because of the adapter, or the phone, or the headphones, but because of the source of power that you are using. Also, if you have headphones that have independent volume control it is always suggested that you have the audio from your phone all the way up and then adjust the volume to your liking on your headphones from there. If you have the volume on the phone low, but the headphones turned all the way up, it will cause some buzzing as well. The above advice is on the assumption that the buzzing only comes when plugged into your computer, if you have tried on your computer, and a wall outlet, and you get the buzzing both places, it might infact be your adapter. But more than likely it is the power source from your computer.

An excellent answer! As a Video Engineer who works with a lot of Live Audio guys, I know this problem very well. I know that most computers, when plugged into audio, can hum/buzz horribly. This buzz is sometimes attributed to the 60Hz frequency that is created by electric motors.
I have the 2 in 1 adapter from HTC, which came with my TMobile/HTC Shadow, and works with the G1. The 2 in 1 does not have this issue of buzz/hum at all! I have used it to charge via my computer and its wall charger, while playing music through the headphone adapter, with no audio issues.
Hope this helps someone!

I am also looking for the same thing: Anyone know of any physical stores that sell this device? Holidays are approaching and I'm afraid that if I order online I'll miss the package while out of town, so I'd love to walk in a store and grab one... Anyone?
