This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know if you can use this phone like a GPS unit in your car for driving directions? I travel some for my job, and sold the wife on the fact that it would do this, preventing me from having to buy and carry around an additional peace of equipment. However after reading multiple reviews I have seen nothing on this feature.

It will not, out of the box, have realtime turn-by-turn navigation like that, no. It will have google maps, which can plan a route for you. Not until someone like TomTom creates an app like that (which I fully expect and HOPE FOR) will it really be a replacement for a standalone car GPS. TomTom has the software on WinMo, and supposedly have it writeen for iphone, but can't release it because of some sticking points in Apple's SDK (namely that this kind of app is simply not allowed).

I actually didn't know the answer till you guys mentioned it, all we need now is a custom mount to put it on the dash to use it as such.

I have navi in my car, but still, great when needed.

Hopefully those developers get this out asap since I'm sure there will be a huge demand.

Huge demand indeed. Wanting this kind of capability is why I specifically ruled out an ipod touch when I was considering my web device options. If the ipod touch had GPS, I probably wouldn't be here right now...

Glad it doesn't.

We should be able to see it in the near future. Tele Atlas, a Dutch Digital Map maker has recently signed a 5 years deal with Google. Its map will be included on cellphones based on Android.
