UK G1: Would they allow to unlock after 3 months?

I was told by the sales person that you can request for an unlock after 3 months into the contract. Is that all correct?

Never heard of ANY UK operator offering to unlock a phone. Since the cost of the phone is built into the contract I don't see why they would do so.
