As i know that when i preorder the phone. i was given two options $25 and $35 a month. Now i read today's newspaper that had an article about the new G1 phone. It said it will be $65 a month. Since i am deaf and i am not sure if that is the additional "PHONE" plan. Does anybody have any idea why a newspaper would say $65 a month?

Was there an electronic link to it?

I highly doubt it would be $65 for JUST the unlimited data plan since the reps from T-Mobile clearly stated the prices of the data plans would be $25 & $35.

Looks like the editor automatically assumed the $39.99 + $25 plan options automatically. Probably a silly mistake of generalization (or probably he just published what his own plan would look like :D).

On a second thought, I think the combination of $29.99 individual plan is possible on the G1, bringing the total to $55/month, which is not that bad. But in that, you wouldn't get any free nights, just free weekends and only 300 anytime minutes.

Haha. I was joking...but look at this little gem:

The cost of the device is $20 less than the iPhone, part of an effort by T-Mobile to lure customers and lock them into long-term plans.

EVIL!!! HOW DARE THEY! WHAT KIND OF COMPANY WOULD DO SUCH A...oh. All of them? That's how the whole industry works? .....oh.

in that same article they mention this...

The G1 smart phone, produced by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, features a touch screen and a fold-out keyboard. It also incorporates WiFi connectivity, works internationally and offers innovative features such as a scanner that lets consumers read product bar codes and compare prices online.

A scanner? for barcodes? why has this been the first time I've seen this.. I think their editor needs to be fired for posting incorrection information.

Umm - you use the camera... scan the barcode of any product and can compare products online... its an application that was developed...

Yep, true story, which the previous poster said.

Has anyone read the Gizmodo articles on the G1? Someone loves the iPhone a little too much...

Yup thats right, but the author should have probably clarified that it was an available application for the G1.

Well, there's a LOOOOOOT of misinformation floating around out there. Some other gems I've seen today:

Tmobile will limit users to 1 GB per month
Theres no video playback capability at all (and they went on to say no 3rd party has developed any)
You have to buy your own storage, because none will come with it
Opening the kayboard is the only way to flip the view..the accelerometer can't do this for you

And again, these are all STATED FACTS from other sources, not questions being asked around here. --And every last one of them is 100% false. Fanboyism is alive and well, my friends.

WHEW! INDEED. Giz wen on FULL ON ATTACK MODE over the thing. Article after article about why it SUX0RZ the big one. One of the article's pictures is a cow crapping a G1 out in a spray of diarrhea! WTF? Live and let live, guys. It almost makes the phone war feel like the presidential campaign!:D

It makes things a little enjoyable though when the Apple fanboys are spouting their incorrect nonsense in the comments on a very misinformed article. Of course, when backed into a corner you hear "but no 3.5mm jack and its ugly!!!11"...well, at least I can swap my battery out at home without paying $100.

Yes I had a phone conference just a short while ago with our tmobile rep and he explained to me in detail the features of the phone and the scanner program wasn't one he mentioned so I just assumed it was a rumor, but I'm guessing its available through 3rd party software... which it was reported incorrectly then because it was stated as a "innovative" feature of the phone.

The actual hands-on didn't have such a "secks wit teh iphone plz" tone that the others had. The 5 flaws were hilarious, since a couple of the "flaws" were due to their own misinformation. The ensuing comments were even more entertaining.

lets get back to the fact where $65 dollars a month is true or not otherwise additional charge for phone plan or whatever

Get back to what?

It's incorrect information, that simple.

When you order the phone, it asks if you want the required $25 or $35 data plan. This is added to your voiceplan and other features of course. So yes, $65 a month is possible in that aspect.

thank you, i'm hoping tmobile will release the full plans someday so i can see what additional charges will be need. Also i wonder if GPS useage will be one of those charges

Right. We covered that a long time ago. You can NOT have the data without a voice plan. And the data plans themselves, both of which are UNLIMITED, cost $25 with 400 text messages or $35 with unlimited text messages. The article is just wrong.

Also i wonder if GPS useage will be one of those charges

GPS in and of itself does not cost anything. The downloading of the information in the maps or the software that uses the GPS info uses bandwidth, so that will count against your allowance, which, again, is unlimited*.

*TMob reserves the right to throttle speeds down if you download over 1 GB a month, but most indicators are that they won't.

No, let me break it down:

REQUIRED
Voice plan - $29.99+
Data plan - $25.00-$35.00

Anything else (insurance, etc) is extra.

You can theoretically have a G1 for $55 a month, as someone else said. It depends on what features you get.

Check out tmobile.com for prices.

That's what I'm doing. $29.99/mo voice + $25/mo data.

good thing i work for home depot, they got a nice corporate program for employees with tmobile. I get to knock $10 off my monthly bill. Check with your employer if they have perks with tmobile for employees

I know a lot of companies do that setup with multiple phone carriers, so if any of you can check to see if this applies I'd jump on that right now. Save some $$$
