I just dropped my (bareback) G1 from about shoulder height (while sitting) onto an area rug covering a wood floor. Result: the screen popped open. Oh G1 screen, I love your love of opening.
So . . . any fall that does not result in a visible scratch or a brick or a cracked screen is a win to me!
So I've now ranked the G1 above my Sprint Treo 180 for durability which . . . isn't saying much.

I dropped my first one on its "chin", and it got a dent at the bottom of it. My new one hasn't been dropped once though. I learned my lesson lol.

i don't plan on dropping mine...but i think it's more hardy than something else i have. I accidentally dropped my PSP from waist height onto a tile floor...and the analog stick went out. Just a few days ago...i accidentally dropped it from computer chair height onto my wooden floor. The battery cover is now broken. So i'm walking around with a PSP with a Bjork'd up analog stick...and tape holding the battery pack in. Sony made a really pretty (and powerful) portable gaming device...but i'm guessing they traded cosmetics with ruggedness. (For those wondering...i actually use it for listening to music since it has an in-line remote on the headphone jack. My Minidisc player finally broke so the PSP was an audio and video game upgrade).
Back to the G1...I have the invisible shield to protect from scratches...but we'll see what happens over time with shock factors.

Akin to your drop test. I 'tested' the compass with a fridge magnet and it became stuck. A few light taps on the back while facing down finally got it working like new.

I guess I didn't make it obvious . . . I droppped it by accident! And I just got this replacement from Tmo. It keeps falling and hitting things while I'm holding it . . . I'm pretty sure it's suicidal ;)

Man I've ALMOST droppped my g1 onto a concrete floor but did the bobble and catch thing. This was all while showing off how cool it was. I looked so lame, but am damn glad I didn't drop it.

I've dropped my g1 from the bottom of my chest onto a wood floor and no damage. I'm 5'7" btw, I know I'm short, lol

Mine was in its case and my girl was "acting" like she as going to toss it with the back and fourth motion that you trick a dog with when tossing a ball.Anyway..The g1 flew out of the slip case *terror in my eyes at this point* flew across the room and landed between my xbox 360 and HDTV. Could of easily broken either of those, and itself. But, it landed square in the middle on the carpet, and not a single scratch. Were talking 9 ft across the room at high velocity too. 2 weeks later all is well.

My G1 use to turn of everytime I use to slide it closed then a week later I dropped it by mistake from my locker at work to a marble floor and ever since that day my G1 doesnt shut down when I slide it closed and it doesnt even have any damage to it... so basically the drop made it better... :D

Dropped mine about 3 feet onto concrete..There is a small scuff on one of the bottom corners. But, it works just fine. I got a better case the next day.;)
