"Save Image" in Android Browser Doesn't Save To "Pictures"

I can see myself using "Save Image" in the Android browser a lot. I already have. However, not only do downloaded images go to the browser's image manager as opposed to the "Pictures" program, but I can only set them as Contact/MyFave Icons or Wallpaper. Other applications that might need them (such as setting an IM icon) are notoriously absent.

Is there a way to move downloaded pictures to the "Pictures" app? I figured a file browser for my SD Card would help, but all the ones I've heard about seem to have disappeared from the Market.

In my pictures app I have three options when I open it:

ALL Pictures, Camera, and Download.

Camera contains pictures taken with the phone. Download contains photos/images downloaded from email or the browser, and All contains both combined.

That's odd. I put a picture in the root directory of my SD Card and it detected it fine. When I downloaded a picture using the browser, it doesn't load it.

I don't get a list of options, but maybe that's because I haven't used the camera yet.

EDIT: Nope, no sorting options when I open the browser. Is this an RC29/30 thing? I just got my G1 today and it still has RC28.
