View Full Version : Can all G1 owners please do me a favor?

I am an early pre-order G1 owner and my brother ordered his G1 on the day of release. He just received his phone a few days ago and I finally got to take a look at it for the first time yesterday. I noticed one difference that I want everyone to check, if you don't mind, to compare build on first and second wave devices.

On my G1 the screen is pretty much completely flush with the base of the device all around. On my brother's, the right side of the screen (top if in landscape orientation) sets about 3mm(est.) lower than the base of the device. I first noticed it when I ran my finger over the top edge of the device after closing it in landscape mode. Taking a look, it is completely even across the top (side if in portrait mode) of the phone, about 3mm(est.) below the device base level.

I am wondering if this was the result of an attempt to fix the uneven screen to keyboard orientation that a lot of us have been experiencing.

So, if you don't mind taking a look at the right edge (top if in landscape orientation) of your G1 and report if the screen and base are pretty much flush, or if the screen is noticeably lower than the base I would really appreciate it.

Just a curiosity thing really, I prefer the flush look when closed and would choose that over a even screen when open.

Thanks

That sounds broken and annoying. I got my G1 from Walmart 2 days ago and the screen is flush. No keyboard orientation problem either.

Nope, no catch. In fact they had a one-year contract option that I gladly took. It seems not all Walmarts have that deal though. It's is discussed here: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/walmart-one-year-contract-7362/

i noticed that with my first and second g1's. My first one also creaked and this one doesnt creak. It got worse after i shaved the nub off of the first one. (warning to all of you who are still thinking about shaving that nub off)

Lets all be very careful with these screens. A lot can be said for the worry that after tons of use the flip-out keyboard could easily break or become noisy, infected with lint and dirt.

I'm very optimistic about HTC and their product(s), brand.
the Wing™ (made by HTC) seems rugged enough.

Oh, yea... Mine is slightly off kilter but, think of how fixable it will be when broken halfs of these start turning up on ebay a year from now.

someone posted a fix to the screen creaking problem. Theres a nub on the bottom right corner of the screen underneath where the joint is. This little piece of plastic for a few of us caused the creaking noise anytime we had the screen closed. So a few people decided to take a sharp blade and shave it off. Well it may eliminate that annoying sound but it keeps the screen centered.
