I've been messing with ifunpix all day (another streaming program for the G1 I found that works) I came home from work and on a hunch I disconnected my router and connected my cable modem directly to my PC and then I started up the ORB program (because orb has better opitons then ifunpix). I then went into orb settings on my pc and clicked web speed entered 200kbs aand clicked remember web speed. Then i went to upstream and also entered 200kbs. Then i went to make sure that my firewall ports were open on my windows vista to run orb, they tell you on orbs website how to do the ports. I then logged in to orb via my phone clicked on settings...speed...and entered 200kbs clicked save. Then i went back to settings and clicked stream and clicked 3GP-AAC/RTSP (.3gp) and clicked save. I tried a video that i had shared on my orb pc and the first one i clicked worked on edge!!! Its a bit choppy but all the videos worked. I also got a few errors on my phone saying to restart orb so I clicked restart on the orb phone and whala working all over again. I just checked it at my freinds house on his wifi and it works even better (I did have to log out of orb on my phone and log back in on my phone when going to wifi so it could reconfigure the wireless ip and vice versa when going back to edge) I will try at work tomorrow and see if it works on 3g but im sure it will. So all of us that have routers do not have something right unless you know something I dont, because i even disabled the firewall on my linksys router and forwarded all the ports needed for orb to work on the router and it still would not work! Taking the router out of the picture it works great, atleast for me!! Anyone that has a router try what i just did and let me know if it works. i will also mess with the streaming settings to see if i can go any faster. If you find the proper settings for the router please post them!
For all of you that has not already set up orb on your pc just go to the website, download orb, install, share your files with orb and then come to this thread for a walkthrough! Read entire thread and post back if it works please!

try setting your pc's IP to the DMZ on your router, this bypasses the firewall on the router to that ip address only, that is what i did to get mine to work though my router, and yeah i had the same problems with forwarding ports on my router it would never work

Ive seen quite a few posts of orb on here but man I had a hell of a time setting it up! I had to take my router completely out of the picture to get orb working! I tried to forward all the ports on the router and even disabling the firewall on my router and still it was a no go! so if you have the settings that i need I would like to keep my wireless router going all the time.

interestingly enough i just tried turning off my dmz and using port forwarding again and it works now though my router, it initaly said video cannot be played but the fix for that message if you get it is to go into youtube and start any video then leave and try orb again :)

Frito your a genious, that worked setting the dmz to my orb pc ip address! Thanks a bunch!!
For all of you with a linksys router having problems this is what i did....
I just logged into my linksys router went to status...local network...clicked on DHCP Clients Table found my computers name and ip address which is something like 192.168.xxx wrote it down went to applications and gaming on my router clicked on DMZ then enabled it and put in my 192.168.xxx clicked save and whala orb is working perfectly
I also still have all my ports forwarded in the aplication and gaming on my router set to my computers ip which is 192.168.xxx the xxx if anyone is wondering is the last three numbers of your pc ip address. I am not about to change anything after this!!

The last 2 questions for ya Frito, what is the fastest webspeed and upstream we can go with orb on our pc and whats the fastest speed on our phone settings we can go? I am done, i have orb and its working!! Now we need a rocket scientist to make us a useable flash player and the ability to save and run apps off of our sd cards and man I will shut the hell up!!

Wait, wait, you put your PC's IP in the DMZ? But . . . that means it's not behind a firewall at all now.
Doesn't that make you nervous?
I'm about to try to set-up Orb, so it makes me nervous to hear I might have to do that. IfunPix's interface is horrible, but at least I didn't have to mess with any router settings or drop my security level!

I was going to voice concern about enabling DMZ also. Anyone that is considering doing this should definately do some research into putting your computer in the "DeMilitarized Zone" and the implications of doing so.
I know that the average person isn't likely to get randomly hacked but using DMZ does make me a little nervous.

I have a Linksys router. I DL Orb Wednesday and set it up and I got an error saying something about video on my Laptop wont work. So I deleted Orb. So thats the problem. True of false. Since Im using my Laptop does it have to stay on all the time for Orb to work?

orb has to stay on on yuor computer with all your files you are trying to stream! Enabing dmz is the only way it would work on my phone with a linksys, but beware that you are disabling your fiewall on the pc when using dmz! windows has a built in firwall so i am not to worried, I have never been hacked yet! I could stream stuff all day on my laptop and it would work before enabling dmz just not my phone??? Make sure you have all the ports forwarded on your router and firewall on you pc running orb with all your files on it before enabling dmz and try it if it doesn't work then its up to you if you want to enable dmz and put your ip address in it. the orb website tells you how to open ports on your router and windows fire wall.

union i set my speed to 200 for my phone, it streams videos and live tv over edge and 3g smoothly i haven't tried raising it higher but i know there is a point where it will hit the max for edge (should be a little more than 200 say 215-220) and i know that it fails to work if set around 380 as that is what it auto set it to when it tested the speed of 3g on its own and didnt work

I've tried every thing to get this to work over 3g but to no avail. I've opened up all the proper ports on my router and firewall, connected my laptop directly to my cable modem to eliminate the router as the culprit, and turned off my firewall. It STILL won't work over 3g. I have the speed set at 200 kb/s and still get the same error over and over. iFunPix works great but I want Orb to work! I'm starting to think that my ISP is somehow blocking it. Anyone get this working that has RCN as their cable/internet provider?

in windows vista i had to manually open up the ports in my firewall by clicking add new port then putting in port number then i had to lable port number, i just labled them orb 1-6 and then i knew my ports where open then forwarded all my ports through my router and enabled dmz put my ip adrress in and that was it i was streaming! u need to read this entire thread it tells u how to enable dmz and what to set on orb and i garentee it will work over 3g!
