Alrights so the Ninja Chuck Norris Android just got his G1 and was attempting to log on and link my gmail account when all of the sudden I getz a message like "There is a problem communicating with the Google servers... This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services."

What does this mean? And it's been doing this ever since i got it. I've attempted to create a new account and even use my gmail accnt info and everytime it never fails to give me this message. Planning on calling the Tmobile reps and ripping their heads off but any other suggestions why it's happening?

This means you do not have internet connection on your G1 - check if there is the 3G/EDGE icon in the top screen - next to Signal Bars - both arrows (up and down) should be white most of the time if internet is working.

Haha... not so "ninja" now...

Maybe your SIM doesn't have the necessary info... check this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2845777&postcount=5

Did you previous device have a data service? If not, you'll need to get it.

I had the same error when I used the new sim card sent in my spouses package. Get a data plan and u are good to go.

My case, I input my sim card, used their login on gmail and got everything running, then put back they new sim card.

so far, working great on wifi.

i just did. called them and updated my service plan from Sidekick 3 to G1 but they said it can take 24-48 hrs and i've tried it recently and it's still not working. Maybe it's just patience for the Ninja Chuck Norris Android.

Hi, I had that problem. I first verified that my TMobile internet was activated on my account and on my SIM card by putting the card in another phone and connecting to the 'net on it. Then I found the APN setting on the G1 and I changed the APN at the heading "T-Mobile US" from the new 3G APN "epc.tmobile.com" to the older APN "internet2.voicestream.com". The APNs can be accessed on your still-locked phone by pushing the "Menu" button at the sign-in screen. Scroll down to "T-Mobile US", select it and change "epc.tmobile.com" to "internet2.voicestream.com", exit by pushing the left-arrow button a few times, then re-enter your GMail info. If the "Edge" icon has appeared in the menu bar area, then you're golden!

I think you have to have a data plan to activate it the first time
