Wi-fi. It absolutely murders my battery when I forget to turn it off when I'm not using it. !!
I've read somewhere that Wifi radios use much less power because of their design, and they don't have to keep searching for a better access point. It's the way cellular data communication was designed, and it's a necessary evil.

So as an advice :

Even when your phone goes into standby mode, you'll stay connected to Wifi and be able to get mail and messages without turning the cell radio back on and trouncing your battery life. And for the times when you're not in an area with a Wifi
connection, just shut Wifi off, either through the menu or with a handy toggle widget. Your battery will thank you for it.

To elaborate the above comment:

long press on desktop so that you get the pop-up menu. Scroll down and find the WIDGET option. Now press that and find the widget for power saving.

Well, I too have had similar issues with both my Android and iOS. Although, there are many apps for iOS to prevent this, the same cannot be said with Android. I, therefore would recommend you to alter the Wi-Fi sleep policy which you can find in the settings section.

May be your battery has been damaged (as example due to a cold wheather, it has happened to me after going to a very cold area, a friend told me that cold wheather will damage the battery, same for a car.)
