View Full Version : Just received my G1 order confirmation text message, but...

The amount stated in the text is LESS than the amount stated on the order summary when I placed the order online yesterday. The text says my account will be charged $192.36, but yesterday it was $210.xx...$179.99 (G1) + $18 (activation) + $12.xx (tax).

Has anyone else seen a discrepancy like this?

Me too, I'm assuming they're telling you the phone was the $180 + tax, and aren't giving you the upgrade fee.

Not sure, but I'm not worried.

I am not worried whatsoever...as a matter of fact, it pissed me off that T-Mobile is charging current customers $18 to activate a phone.

I think all service providers do that, the stupid "upgrade fee". If someone else buys that same phone, they get to charge the $35 "activation fee", so I guess, $18 is not that bad afterall.

And if I understand correctly, the order confirmation page showed the total cost associated with this new phone. while your text message mentioned cost of just the phone. The upgrade fee might show up as a separate charge on your bill. Just a guess.

I still haven't received a test message confirmation. How long does it take?

I pre-ordered last night and just got mine right now, so it took about 14-15 hours. Mine also neglected to include the upgrade fee in the text.

Yes, I just got a text message with the same info and it's about $20 lower than it should be.

I guess they're not charging the upgrade fee then.

hahaha

haha, ha ha

Companies rarely make 'errors in your favor'.

You can be assured they will be charging every fee they said they would on checkout on the web site. It was just an error in the text message, i'm sure.

Strange. It has been more than 24 hours now and no test. So I called T-Mobile and the guy said my account says I posted an upgrade yesaterday but gave no phone info or anything. He then pulled up after looking around my order that was pending shipping for the G1 and he gave me my order number. I really hope they don't mess up and NOT send me my phone on the 22nd.

I haven't received that OC text message either. It's been more than 24 hours for me too. Although, I called the customer service last evening (placed the order in the morning) and she said that the order is in and gave me an order number. Fingers crossed.

Come on guys... all upgrade fees are posted to your first bill they apply to and don't get charged to your card! You'll still get charged!

Finally got mine with $20 less that quoted but Ben is right we will end up paying it no matter what the text says. I however will call up yelling and screaming and they will take off the upgrade fee like I did with my last phone saying the rep never told me about it. Plus if the text says without it its like working at Wal-Mart if the price is wrong you have to give it to the customer for what it says or its bad business... Im locking the text and keeping it right now.

How do you yell and scream about an upgrade fee when it's clearly stated on your confirmation page for the preorder?

No offense, but people that call in yelling and screaming to try and get credit are the type of people I despise. I've worked support for Cingular, Comcast, and now Lockheed Martin/NASA/Army Corp of Engineers (which is a much more pleasant and respectable crowd)... Once you work in customer service you know how to properly act on the phone.

You'll get results much easier by being polite and make your point than you will calling in "yelling and screaming for a credit."

Are we going to get charged this amount on our next bill? If so, are they allowed to do this if we never actually received the product? Good thing is that if I dont get it ON October 22nd, I will ask for my upgrade fee reimbursed.

Did you place the order under your wife's account? Might want to double check that, i see no reason for your wife to receive the text. I got the text on my phone, not my wife's.

Even if thats the case, he must have been logged in on his online account. Dont really know what happened there, but at least he is getting the G and if that was really the case all he has to do is call customer service and switch the data plan. :p

Ahh people who will spend an hour on the phone to get five dollars. Or two to get 18$. I only can wonder how the idea of opportunity cost escaped them. Personally I'd rather make $20 by working hard and legitimately than spend my team stressing myself and others out, for less.

If you approach anyone in any arena professionally and with the propler knowledge you will get faster and more benficial results the vast majority of the time.

Here's how they got the amount showing up in the text message...I'm assuming the $ dollars will be placed on a bill, but here's the break down

Take the cost of the phone ($179.99), add in the upgrade fee ($18) for a total of 197.99. Add in sales tax for that total which was $13.86 for me (7% for GA), and then subtract the $18 upgrade fee leaving you with the amount shown in the text message, $193.85 for me

You are right. It's not going to happen anyways because I know I will just pay it and be done with it. That was what I did with my last phone that I upgraded but that was with Sprint and I was already on edge with their crappy service. I love T-Mobile and will not want to upset them because they are the best cell company out there. PERIOD.

It has been past 24 hrs for me. I've logged onto my online T-Mobile account and can't find anything on my upgrade/order. I guess I'll just have to wait for the text until tomorrow morning. Then I'm making calls.

Can't wait. Feel like a kid in line at a candy store.
