I must be missing something really obvious here ...

In the G1 web browser I can copy and paste links as well as text in input fields but I can't find a way to highlight and copy text that is NOT in an input field.

Can anyone advise me how to do this?

Not sure. I even tried to do it from a "print" this page, ie from abcnews.com and when the page is all text, I cannot copy. Strange.

I would also very much like to know if this is possible. When I heard "Android has cut and paste!" I thought "cool, I'll be able to select text where ever it may be, copy it and paste it elsewhere.

I have the same issues with the Gmail app, say, copying a fedex tracking number from an e-mail, then pasting it on fedex's tracking page in the browser.

Is this possible?

You only have the ability to copy/paste from text fields in which you can type. Don't expect to be able to highlight a passage of text from a web site and copy/paste it into an e-mail. That's just not happening at the moment.
