Hey all,
New to this site and Android. I'm a 50 year old fireman who has resisted the newest tech gadgets but am wanting a tablet for use at home. I'm kinda sick of Mocrosoft and Apple so wanted to go the Android route but dont know a thing about it. I actually have a cell phone but it makes and receives calls and thats pretty much it. I have a new W7 PC at home with a wicked nice HTPC set up running XBMC and mt home net service is Verizon FIOS with a wireless router and great bandwidth.
I would like an Asus Transformer tablet for a number of things but let me ask....does anybody use an Android app for controlling XBMC because my PC remote control sucks!!!! and I've seen youtube vids of the app and it looks like what I need.
Also what about document apps, like Word with Microsoft, for the wife, anything compatible with Office so she could use this for work occasionally. Virus protection? Is that needed? Is there a way to clone the disk and reinstall as protection from a locked out system (I backup my Microsoft machine all the time in case of just such events)?
What about upgrades in memory, or removable drives....I guess I'm wondering what are the first things you have to run out and get when you get an Android tablet to enrich the experience?
HDMI out with the Asus? That works?
What are your favorite apps I should check out?
So many questions....thanks for taking the time to help out someone hopelessly stuck years behind
