Guys,

This is my third day with the G1, on the first day I used the device and I was in love with the screen, keyboard and even getting use to the whole look of the damn thing. Screen was very responsive even with the plastic protector that it ships with.

Yesterday I received the R30 update and since then, my G1's screen alignment is all messed up and by quite a bit too. I tap on a link at the bottom of a page and it registers a tap right on the top of the page and the sceen scrolls up, and if there are links on top then one of those links get selected!

This is not just in the browser but also in other apps like quickpedia and the telegraph application!

The screen doesn't seem to be as responsive as before, now I have to touch the screen a bit harder than before to register a touch. Coming from HTC's usual WinMo resistive screens to the G1's capacitive was a miracle for me, the whole reason why I couldn't wait and ordered one from the USA!

Now I don't know if this is because of the RC30 update or just a faulty screen. I've hard resetted the device and not installed any apps just to make sure its not software related still no luck.

If I turn the phone off and then on again it either works fine for a while or gets worse! Last night I even had problems on the clock home screen!

I've googled and searched here and it seems like I'm the only one with this problem!

Any suggestions, comments etc would be appreciated, confused right now and feel like ordering another one! I love the screen and now its gone lol!

Regards

Thanks very much for your replies, theres one little problem, Tmobile wont do anything as they didnt give me the phone, i got it on ebay from the USA, it came sealed just like the seller had advertised and he stated on the listing that he wont take returns. plus it wont be worth it sending it back, it will cost an arm and a leg to send it insured and i already paid £60 custom charge just to receive the damn thing!

Its weird because i was playing with it earlier and it seemed normal again, super sensitive and alignment was perfect but it wont last for long!

I'm still wondering if its a software issue as it all started after the RC30 update and was fine before!

Isn't there anyway to calibrate the screen? or does capacitive screens not allow you to do so?

Btw I'm posting this from the G1 and its still running fine, fingers crossed!

Still love the bloody thing :D

Thanks guys

Man, that really sucks. They don't take returns but they sent you a defective product? Did the listing state that there were problems with the phone? I'd file a chargeback with EBay if the problem persists.

Lol Divest thanks for your reply. Ninja is just craving out for some attention, his alright but I agree not funny!

I?m happy to report back that the G1 is now working fine... but it does still happen from time to time. What I usually do is, press the END button to put it on standby, and then turn it on again, I then press those dots one at a time in different places (you know those key gesture dots) and they all press in the right place, no problem, then everything works fine.

I dont know what to make of it but its working for now and lets hope it carries on doing so until G2 comes out.

Thanks for your comments :)

Try performing a master reset of the phone. This may improve the situation but will also cause a loss of any downloads.

Telegra.. What telegraph? :scurries off to market:

Nah, seriously, though... I've noticed sometimes if I'm not careful it will act as though, for example when I touch the very edge, that I've suddenly done a very fast slide and it scrolls out of control, but usually that's the result of my other finger ever so slightly touching the other edge (usually, not always). I've always chalked it up to a design quirk to be wary of, and it hasn't been a problem. (in other words, I blame myself for letting my errant finger touch the other edge, for example).

However, if rebooting it makes it fine for a short while, and it gradually gets worse, that sounds like a hardware issue to me. Of course, not seeing it for myself, it's hard to say.
