G1 (Modded RC30) will not telnet to PC? Help

Now the thing is when I am at the home screen on my G1 i push "Enter" on the keyboard and then type "telnetd" and then push enter again it doesnt do anything. When I open up telnet client on my PC it wont connect with wifi on.

So I go to Terminal Emulator on G1 and plug in"
cd system
cd bin
telnetd
And then try and connect to telnet on PC and nothing happens.

So I then go to Telnet client on my G1 and go to connect to "localhost:23" and it says "Error while connecting to server: localhost/127.0.0.1:23 - Connection refused" the thing is that my local host for my wifi is not 127.0.0.1:23

And when I "netstat" from inside Terminal Emulator there is no address with port "23"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot telnet into your phone anymore, at least I don't think so, because this was a security flaw and google fixed it....localhost is referring to your phone...not your pc..

Also, netstat will not produce an ip with port 23 showing...just try the first ip....

Someone correct me if I am wrong though...

I understand that but I am running the Modded RC30 which still allows root for me

Right, but the telnet possibility, into your phone, was closed I believe. you have root because there is a setuid shell in /system/bin

well i tired to use telnet to install the mod rc30, but couldnt connet either. I was using a terminal emulateor on my g1 from the market, and want to gain root access so i can get auto-rotate to work. any help would be appriciated. just to let you know i got my g1 like 2 days ago and have a rc30 (non-modded)

You're out of luck. The only way you could get (at least for now) root on your G1 was with RC29. Original RC30 is locked-down.

So does can I downgrade to rc29? If so, how?
