man when i see phones like this and the HD it makes me wonder why they didn't' put android on a better looking phone. not knocking the g1, but HTC is clearly capable of making a product more appealing to the eyes than the G1.

that's what I am getting at. Keyboards are klunky and take up too much space. They make the phone less durable and require it to be a specific size.

Every phone that gets the "wow/sexy" factor (iPhone, Diamond...Instinct? Omnia?) is keyboardless...Xpertia is supposed to break that mold, we'll see...

But what's a smartphone without a keyboard? Any great smartphone will have a keyboard, which imo makes the iphone a sucky phone for business men who type lots of emails, text messages, im's. The iphone is leaning towards the average consumer. Not all phones look "klunkly" with a keyboard. A keyboard is always nice when you are in the hurry and have no time for touching small letters than cant be rotated into landscape mode to create an easier to use keyboard. The phone looks ok, it kinda has a weird design to it but I guess so does the G1 so ill just keep my mouth shut about that :)

I think the G1 designer was distracted, lol... They probably had a few options/prototypes and decided to go with this.

For me, G1 is perfect. I like slider phones, and dont like to see the keyboard on a phone, so it fits... only drawback is the thickness, probably due to the battery and the slider.

the color may not be appealing, but I like my gadgets brown and black, so again, its win-win 4 me!

i agree, but i think google's main concern was the OS, i think they just put out a phone with enough hardware and style to do its job. nothing amazing looking, i think they wanted to work out all the kinks with the OS, problems, find the bugs, hear feedback from people, wait for a breakthrough in APPs so the market will finally turn from a beta version into the real thing then release other high-end marketable phones with the Android OS when things are actually up to par. But yes, i do agree that the phone could of been hmm i suppose you can say sleek, attractive, etc.

ps. I hope HTC works with GOOGLE on the next android phone, no other phone manufacturers catch my eye except HTC. To be honest out of all the phones HTC has made the G1 is the lowest on its scale... but they only manufactured it by Google's Specs. Come on Google, you got to wake up a little bit its almost 2009, step up your game. :D
