it's not a smart phone and the g1 is... i'll take the g1 any day over that phone. Heard the web browsing sucks on it, and doesn't have push email. camera kicks butt though, that's probably the only good thing about that phone.

It seems like a pretty decent multimedia phone.....they have the web browser listed at full html but the G1 totally puts it too shame on that end. The camera is pretty damn good tho. To me seems like a pretty decent alternative to the G1 if your a Tmob cust that doesnt want a smartphone. I'll stick to my G1 tho:cool:

I just got a chance to play with it today while I was stopping by the Tmo store. Its almost like a shadow and G1 put together... without the brains that is.

What? Fail across the board with useless posts that serve to do nothing but clutter up threads with nonsense and rhetorical questions? Yeah, that's what you do.

On-topic:

I've looked at and played with them both and I have to say that if you want to look like you've got a decent phones but don't have the brains or patience to properly operate a G1, get a Samsung Behold. It's a simple phone who's main (and only function) is to look like a futuristic phone.

If you're actually looking for a half decent phone, get a G1.

i would not consider the behold a "smartphone" competitor... in comparison, its just a regular phone with a really nice camera compared to the g1...

i dunno why the G1 is a smart phone, you cannot receive advanced MMS , or save pics off of MMSs. Yes the G1 runs smooth but it's in the same league as the Iphone still doesnt have as much felxiblity as WinMo

Ok - if you waited G1 only for the MMS reasons - that may not be the phone for you.

Why MMS is so important? I believe that MMS belongs to few years ago technology more than to the 2008. MMS is just not being used to it's full extent. Saving the picture from MMS - ok; what exactly you want to save the picture for? Save it on the cd, hdd or something else and keep it to collect the dust? forward the MMS if you want to share it and there you go...

the G1 is well (cant believe im using this as a comparison) an apple computer that fits into your pocket
The Behold is comparable to a $200 PC you can buy at walmart that is running some no name linux based OS that isnt compatible with anything in the known universe.
Sure they can both send emails but one is seriously full of suck.
Other than the behold's beautiful looks on the outside, it's got nothin' on the G1.

Wow are you defending WinMo?
Well then lets change the definition of a smartphone.

Smartphone - A phone that can save MMS pics but will require a reboot after its finished saving because the OS is so stupid that it froze.
Freezing Smartphones and Oxymorons - FTW

I'll take my non-smartphone anyday of the year over anything running RIM, PALM, and WinMo OS's

Agreed. it looks nice on the outside, and has a decent camera but from everything that i've seen its very generic. Its only barely as useful as my old treo 650. I mean hell if thats all somebody expects out of a phone then they can save the $180 and buy a used palm 650 on fleabay for pennies.

If you need a good quality camera, than you need Samsung Behold or Motorola Zine. If you need a smart phone, than you need G1.

After all of my bitching about the behold, i ended up getting one....for my wife.
I wanted to get her a white g1 but she's secretly jealous of my G1 seeing as i always have it in my hands. It should be getting here sometime this week but i most likely wont be able to post any side by side pics until after Christmas because it's a present for her.
Like a lot of people i dont think she really needs or would really put the G1 through its paces so i think this phone will suit her just fine. Out of the box it comes with pretty much everything most non-geeks will need. Has anyone else seen any G1/Behold side by side comparisons?

I actually had the Behold for two weeks before I returned it for the G1.

My pros on the Behold: Metal casing (very durable), looks cute.
Cons: Heavy for such a small phone, HORRIBLE keyboard, slow internet, too basic for me. And the camera--SLOW as heck and didn't take very good pics in my opinion.

My pros on the G1: My white one is very cute, keyboard, web, email, apps... the list goes on and on.
Cons: Delicate casing, big, the chin is a bit annoying, NO flash on the camera, USB jack instead of 3.5 mm, battery life.

So for $20 less, I decided to return my behold for the G1. I came from a BB Curve, so I needed something that could keep up with me better. The Behold is definitely NOT a smart phone by any means and is more meant for people who want a basic (in my opinion) phone.

It's a phone. All phone cameras suck. Just about any self-respecting digital camera on the market kicks the Behold's butt (and the G1's) when it comes to picture quality.

Yea I got my girl a sidekick 08 instead of a G1 for that specific reason. She's not an electronics geek and she loves her sidekick (despite the fact taht I feel at 26 she's much too old for one) and yea.

She's semi mad at me though cause my phone is super cool :-)

Hah, I was thinking the same thing when I saw his! Although, I did a good job on the front IMO, which is the most important part. But one of my sides looks really awkward, and my back still has quite a few number of bubbles... Hopefully they will go away but we'll see...

lol thanks. Its the BSE (bestskinsever) skin. I like it too. In fact i think that skin prevented me from returning my phone yesterday. My screen is a little wobbly when its opened but i figured its something i can live with. I just didnt want to have to reapply the skin and this time i most likely would screw it up. ;)

Funny, I also applied my BSE yesterday after deciding I might as well keep the unit. My screen is REALLY creaky and kind of wobbly, but I can't complain too much since I got the phone for $179.99 despite being more than 20 months away from an update.

To be honest.

The behold sucks.

Not real web browsing, NO WIFI, seriously what.
Could not add like other apps or something. Java locked.

Could not use as a modem for computer that sucks.

You get the point!

I exchanged it for a G1. Love it so far :D

In my opinion the touch screen as a whole fails. While using it I told my friend if it had some calibration feature and he said he'd done it twice, the latter which he used a thin piece of an eraser! I coulnt type on it , I couldn't scroll through web pages without clicking on something it took me like 5 mins to lie and say "cool phone" .....I just thought it was garbage. No WiFi ...I would have Returned it as well

It did have a nice flash

nah dude i totally agree. I wouldnt have got this for my wife if she wanted anything more than to be able to text and talk. When i gave it to her she was just glad that it was pink and that it looks pretty damn sexy (for a phone). The only thing i really enjoyed using was the keyboard. It felt pretty responsive because i was using it as if it were a real keyboard and applying a little pressure. Lol after using that camera it made me realize that the G1 allows you nearly 0 control over camera settings. I originally wanted to get her the MOtorola Zine or whatever its called because i read that the camera on that phone is one of the best camera phones on the market

hell yeah! thats the only way to do it. I only use the phone camera if i really need to. Other than so called "emergencies" and SHopsavvy i dont even bother with 'em. I guess what i was referring to was that the G1 doesnt allow you to do anything other than press the shutter release button. On the Sammy you can at least control brightness and zoom (not that digi zoom is worth a damn). I mean its better than just being able to press the release button was all i was trying to say. For such a sophisticated piece of machinery we own you'd think we'd have a few more things to mess with out of the box. Oh well. :)

I know I'm digging up ths subject from the grave....I always see this camera subject pop up in several threads....yes if you want to take a nice picture w/ zoom in a pitch black room then you my f friend need a real camera .....but I for one rarely carry my camera around ...there are so many instances where your caught off gaurd and there is some funny sign, person, car, etc etc where it comes in handy ....I've only tried the camera feature twice....the 1st pic came out awesome......the second one not so great....

I just re read my entire post had no actual subject/point to it

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm satisfied with my camera ....hahaha wow that whole paragraph was pointless

Hm... word. The phone's good for "emergency" pictures. The only thing is, zoom/focus is a mechanical process and the G1 has a minimal autofocus feature (which is pretty impressive for a phone anyway). I don't think it would be possible to have extensive zoom on this device lol.

Brightness might be a software feature, as it depends on how optical data are written to disk. However, it is entirely possible that the process is hidden behind a hardware black box. I have not checked out the SDK yet, so I don't know how this works...

It would be nice to be able to store images in a lossless format, but I guess it would not matter for a phone anyway.
