Ok, so just now on CBS news, they reported on a story that Google will be giving users 'search history' to, (they say), the CDC to find out anyone searching information on the 'Flu'. They say that no PERSONAL info will be disclosed, (really?).
Any comments?

I just assume that the gov does what they want when they want. So this never surprises me.

Yeah, you can go with Google who's fought government intrusion for a long time, or you could go with Verizon and AT&T, who bent over for "Homeland Security" before they were asked nicely. Take your pick.

Nothing surprising here, assume that the FED monitors/Log's traffic of all carriers. Remember the NSA's Carnivore program, and the whole Telecom immunity deal. also NYPD's ring of steel program went online couple of days ago "cams everywhere".

Yup 1984 is here, don't do or say anything of consequence online.

yep, doesn't surprise me either, but i have much faith in google, as well as a small stake ;)

courts of law have started using myspace and facebook pages to judge ones' character... like default said, big brother is watching

for all you in your 20's like me, its advised to not post anything obscene that you wouldn't show your mother, and lots of drinking pictures apparently make you a bad person too in a court of law...

That's a good piece of advice for anybody, not just people in their 20s.

This doesn't surprise me, considering that each and every telephone call is monitored for certain keywords that can trigger a recording and subsequent analysis of the call.

hey, I understand that we all want privacy, but I also want safety and freedom from fear of attacks, etc. The way I look at it, they're not going to come after me unless they need to -- if I'm not doing anything wrong, I don't care -- it will potentially make me safe from those that are. If the Gov't wants to know what sports team I follow, or how much pr0n I watch, or that i love dinosaurs...by all means. feel free. But I'm pretty sure they'll be more worried about the guy who is querying 'plutonium' and 'dirty bomb'

ps - these are all just examples, though I do love dinosaurs.

Gee wonder how people in candna have there safety and freedom...They dont seem to suffer from taping people phoneline or searching for the word flu...

Btw I be starting Flu today, make sure to pass it on the football in the house that is white. If you catch my drift.

what does the "flu" have to do with anything? Is this so the government can now section everyone who is sick off from the rest of the world? Oh no, the end is happening. Everybody gather behind Ninja Chuck Norris Android. He'll Protect You!!!

It has nothing to do with spying on people..

Google has found that most people in the world run a google search for "flu symptoms" before even calling a doctor. They have been doing studies on this, and by grouping together the areas Google's system can now predict where a flu outbreak will occur 5 days faster than the CDC.

I heard about this awhile ago. Google keeps record on anything you search for.

Makes you wonder how they can manage that data as quickly and efficiently as they do. It's really quite amazing!
