Hi all,

Is there anyway we can change the call log time to the exact time called (like a time stamp)? Instead of "xx mins ago" or "xx hour ago"

Thanks

Interested also! I don't like the 1 hour ago crap.

This is one of those things that makes you scratch your head in amazement at the realization that someone... an actual person, or team of people... thought that setting up the call log this way was a good idea.

I don't mean to sound like an angry, ranting lunatic, but the fact is... this is just plain STUPID. Not only does it only say "1 Hour Ago" or "2 Hours Ago", but it only shows the rounded hour... not "1 Hour and 36 Minutes Ago."

To the developers, I ask you this: In what way does this new call log time stamp provide a benefit over the traditional display (i.e. "Mon 7:36p")? Can ANYONE provide just ONE example in which this is preferable to an actual time stamp? JUST ONE??!?

It's retarded and it genuinely makes me question the overall design of this phone's software. I imagine our only hope is that someone creates an app to change the time stamp display, because clearly T-Mobile/Google isn't going to do it.

LOL, Interesting 1st post. Welcome to AC... usually new users give an intro in the "Who are you" thread...hahaha

The entire call log needs revamping. It doesnt sound like a true programmer did this. Most if not all programmers will aggree that Timestamps make a lot more sense.

Another issue I have is the fact that recent calls get added to favorites? Men, I dont want my credit card CS or Tmobile CS to be on my favorites... Hopefully we get an update sooner or later to address this and other issues...

Sorry to bump this, but its seriously getting on my nerves. Its even more annoying when it says "x days ago" with absolutely no hint of the time the call was made.
Also recent calls showing up in the favorites is not cool !!

I think they are trying to make it like gmail with the "x hours/days ago". But they overlooked the fact that with gmail you can find out the actual time stamp if you need it.

Any idea if this is going to be fixed ?

I can see how this could be preferable for some people. This should be an option.

Not to be combative or disrespectful, but I would challenge you to provide a single instance in which the current display is preferable to a traditional display. I don't think such a circumstance exists.

if anyone can answer this that would be great. i actually googled this problem and it led me to this forum. nice to see someone else asking the same question.

When you're looking up calls you've made within the day, it's a hassle to have to figure out what time it is, subtract 24 hours, and compare it against every timestamp. The feature is great for short-term recall because timestamps are relative to now.

I don't know... that sounds pretty weak. If it's 4:00pm and the screen said that a call came in at 2:37pm it doesn't take a math teacher to say, "that was about an hour and a half ago".

But if it's 4:00pm and it says "2 Hours Ago"... what time was that call?? Was it 2:00pm? Was it 2:29pm??? There's no way to know. There is not only no way to know what time the call took place, but there is also no way to know what time the call ended. This new format BLOWS.

I can't believe that the developers haven't caught wind of peoples' disdain for this yet...

COME ON GUYS - FIX THIS!! At least give us a CHOICE to use this retarded display or the normal display... This is just about enough to make me want to throw my G1 out the window... it's ridiculous.

Personally, I prefer it the way it is, but I can see where you guys are coming from. Perhaps this is something that the Google developers should consider adding as an option in future releases, but I still don't see why some of you guys are getting emotionally upset about this, shouting (in caps), and calling names 'retarded'.

Please bear in mind that you have an option and a position that is not absolute, simply subjective, so there's no need to get aggressive since it's not something that can or will be changed overnight :)

By the way, if you're planning to throw your G1 out the window, perhaps I can offer you a token sum for it - saves you the grief and saves me the money of getting another spare G1 ;)

While I certainly appreciate you educating me on the differences between objective and subjective, I feel like it's fairly obvious that one option would be much more popular than the other. Commission a poll of G1 owners... how many do you suppose would actually prefer the new display to the old? Also, it's logical: One option displays limited, ambiguous data, while the other provides all the same information, plus more detailed information. Not to mention the fact that there is something to be said for tradition... as in, "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

As for name calling, I guess I didn't realize that the current display format could be offended by me calling it retarded.

I think you missed the point. It's a phone. Why get so worked up over a phone? If it annoys you that much, get rid of it and find something else that puts you in a better disposition. :)

I hear what you're saying - and I can appreciate that. I think for me the frustration derives from the thought that

A) I expect something much more intuitive from Google and;
B) I can't understand why the change was made. If I could at least rationalize it somehow it wouldn't seem so bad.

Clearly, implementing an option or switch for this feature would make most users happy.

Your experience of intuition is by no means universal.

Was there a change? This has always been Google's [default] way of displaying timestamps.

First, yes, there not being an option to see the real time is outrageous. As for displaying the min/day/hours ago, that is how GMail works too when viewing an email discussion (though, oddly, not on the inbox). The difference being that GMail will show the full timestamp if you click on the "show details" link. There's no such option here.

I believe there are other, more powerful dialers in the market. Give 'em whirl!

They could have done as they have it on Gmail, both the actual time and info on how long ago it is.

14:17 (45 minutes ago)

Okay, you're right about that. I was referring to the list view, however, which only displays the fuzzy time. The call log is also a list view.

And displaying both would be another good idea, but if there's not enough room for that in portrait mode, I guess a default-switch should be implemented too.
