hey i have a question, if i use my wifi and send out an email on my phone how much will that cost me without a data plan, as of right now i just have unlimited text plan.

i think i heard somebody say 1/4 of a minute but i dont want to rack up a huge charge just by going with that info

Why do you people try to use a cloud phone without a data plan? these questions are ridiculous.

How much will it wear my wheels to drive without tires?
How messy will my underwear if i use the toilet without wiping?
How do pancakes taste without syrup?

And if you're on wifi, then it should be free. But who knows, you are using a CLOUD phone.

If you are using WiFi for data connection, you can use as much data/e-mail as you want, without charge. Just make sure that you're connected via WiFi and not EDGE/3G. If you're not on WiFi and you don't have a data plan, you could end up with some HUGE charges ($.15 per KB I think).

Long story, short: WiFi use incurs ZERO data charges, period.

LOL at this reponse. Yeah, with these smartphones today you have to have a connection with your service or else the phone is useless. Like having the Iphone without internet service through at&t it's basically rendered a Itouch then. Like having a computer these days without the internet.

I have to admit, I'm getting tired of these "Why would you use a data device without a data plan?" responses to legitimate questions.

Fact is, MANY people only use their data devices while they are in range of WiFi. IF that's the case, and they're not using data while out-and-about without WiFi coverage, why should they pay for a data plan?

The way I see it, their use of data is saving them ~$20 per month, all because they don't see the need to have data on all the time.

What works for some may not work for others. To each his own, and let's try to respect that.

There are phones that have wifi access, such as wing, wizard etc and can even check you e-mail and such via edge/3g.However, these are not cloud phones, they are PDA+phone that have access to the internet.

In contrast the G1 is a CLOUD phone, and that means it relies on internet access to achieve a lot of its functionality. If you use wifi and no other kind of connection, then you sir have the wrong phone, by definition.

wow, people who say "I never need data without WiFi" I find that very hard to believe. WiFi is not available everywhere, and when it is its actually not very secure unless its on your network.
