Mods please move if necessary. I wasn't sure where to put this.

I've been receiving a bunch of PM's for this so I'm making this thread. This tutorial is for those who wish to forward their hotmail but can't do so because of the restrictions that hotmail has. This might work for you. This might not work for you. Use at your own discretion.

Login to your Hotmail account
Go to options
Go to "Mobile Alerts for new messages" under the "Customize your mail" heading
Type in your mobile phone number
You'll then receive a text message with a pin number
Type in the pin number
Then select the option telling Hotmail Not to send you any text messages
Go back to options and click on "Forward mail to another e-mail account"
You'll now see that the restrictions for forwarding are now gone
You can forward to any account you please.

I did not have to do the first half of your tutorial. I was not aware of the forward mail to another email account option since I always use desktop clients. I went into options on the web client and the option was already available. Thanks a lot.

The option to forward is available to me also without having to do the mobile thing. It does show this caveat though

You can forward your mail to one other e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, live.com, or is part of Windows Live Custom Domains.

It's that caveat that this tutorial bypasses

Do you still have to log in every 30 days for your account to remain active?

I dont have the "Mobile Alerts for new messages" under the "Customize your mail" heading...
What could be the reason for this?

Not sure why you don't have it

I heard on Windows Weekly that POP3 will be available on Hotmail again. Has anyone else heard about this?

Once you click the "Mobile alerts..." link you should see text fields for the numbers.

Okay, so I did the tutorial. My hotmail account is even informing me that my email is being forwarded. BUT, I'm still not getting new messages sent to my gmail account.
I checked, double-checked, and triple-checked to make sure that hotmail was forwarding the messages to the correct gmail account. Any ideas?

Maybe there's a setting on your gmail account that needs tweaking? Not too sure what the problem is.
