Yes, i just got my G1 today and to my surprise there was a nice little gift included. That's right a 3.5mm headphone adaptor was packaged in with the HTC proprietary headphones that T-Mobile decided to include. Just figured this would be a sigh of relief for many as this was a MAJOR complaint about the hardware for many. Not only is it a 3.5mm adaptor it also has a talk end button with microphone on it so you can use your own headphones as a hands free headset. Great Job HTC and T-Mobile!

I called and the guy told me it's not included. but I kept telling him my friend got a new phone and he got the adapter in the box. then the guy was telling me maybe my friend had purchased it or it just came in by mistake. so I was like, but I even went to the store to check few boxes there and they had the adapters there too. and I found out that pre-ordered phone like mine don't have the adapter and new ones have it.
and then the guy put it on some kind of investigation or whatever and when they find out something then I should get a txt msg about it.
so I don't know. I guess if they decide to send me then I should get a msg if not, oh well..
at least I'm getting a new battery finally.

But worth calling and complaining to get the adapter sent to you.

Everyone can complain all they want, about anything they want.

However, I did read weeks before the G1 was released that T Mobile planned to include an adapter with the phone, but that it would only be included with phones NOT early released.

in otherwords, they said that people pre-ordering, or who went to the T Mobile store on launch day wouldn't have the adaptor, but later phones would include them.

Anyways, as someone else said, it's a $5 adapter. If you're really upset, call T-Mobile and see if they won't just send you the adapter. I've found T Mobile's CS to really try to accommodate.

hey guys i just got off the phone with tmobile and the nice girls in CS told me that it isnt listed as an accessory. Which brings me to this question. On your box does it say what it comes with, and does it list the adapter?

EDIT ** I just went to tmobile's website and they also dont list the adapter. Damn. Oh well, i still dont think im going to return this one just for the adapter but it would be nice to have.

Will I get same color I ordered in the past? (Black)

Has anyone gotten a replacement that was NOT the same color as original?

It amazes me cheap most of you are. You seriously are going to complain about the fact that your phone did not come with a $5 adapter? Or even go to the store to exchange a phone because you might get another one with the adapter included? I hope they charge you a restocking fee for doing so. It is not fair to return a perfectly good phone just because it didn't come with an accessory you knew wasn't going to come with the phone if you bought it early. Calling t-mobile and complaining is wasting their time. If you are upset that you don't have a 3.5mm and really feel that calling them and whining for half hour till you get something free is worth it then sure go do it, waste everyone's time. The phone cost 179 which is really cheap compared to other phones and you can't spare an extra 5 bucks? Whats next? Are we going to start complaining because the phone didn't come with a car charger since the battery sucks? These things happen from time to time. If you really want an adapter, I would recommend to go to your local t-mobile store, and just ask if any of the g1 returns they got have an adapter you can have. Just my .02

True, you all really think returning the phone and going through all that for a 5 dollar adapter is worth it? You do know that shipping is 10 bucks right? And people lets not ABUSE Tmo, geezz.

I got my replacement phone today, and all I got was the phone itself. No back. No sim. No battery. Just the main part of the phone, which is fine by me, cause this one has some of the issues that were bothering me all cleared up.

Included adapter would be nice, but definitely wouldn't go through all that.

yea that's what i'm trying to do right now. and I asked them. since the adapter is not included by their list, they're doing some investigation if the new phones really have it in the box, and the CS rep I talked to, he said if they find out the new ones have it, then I should get mine shipped as soon as they find out. so I'm just waiting on that now.
and if they wanna charge me for shipping that, then I might ask for $5-10 credit in my acct so I can just go and buy the adapter. I don't know if that's gonna be an option though.

Everyone saying that we are cheap aren't very intelligent in my opinion. Why should we get punished for giving t-mobile and HTC our money before anyone else? Shouldn't we get treated better then people who bought their phone now? They should contact all of us and make sure our phone doesn't have any defects and if it does they should ship us another free of charge. They have everything ass backwards. It doesn't matter how much the adapter cost its the principal that we are getting worse service by doing service with them first.

How would you like to go to Target and the guy after you got a free giftcard with his purchase just because he waited to buy the same thing you did? I'd be pretty pissed and in fact if that does happen because a special promotion you can go in and get the free giftcard as long as its within 45 days.

I did get the black G1, however there was an error in my original posting that they did not include any proprietary haeadphones, although they did include a set of headphones with 3.5mm standard headphones. No mic on those headphones, just the adaptor has a mic. The packaging did not look different from the originals to tell you the truth, i did not find the adaptor until i unpacked the headphones, they had the 3.5mm headphone jack hidden pretty well lol

Alright, this is to all you retards who think that we're not justified in demanding an adapter.

T-Mobile basically did a bait and switch. Even the representatives aren't fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the adapter, how could you possibly expect anyone to be fully informed about this "later models including it" bullcrap? Maybe if we had known, some of us would have waited.

Now, we have to give T-Mobile another $5 to give us what they're giving their newer customers. Not to strawman here, but I can already see someone coming out with "COMPANIES SWITCH ALL THE TIME PROMOTIONS ETC ETC" but this is drastically different. For one, the phone hasn't even been out a month. It's not as if this is the next generation of phones they're manufacturing, nor is this already months down the road; it's been less than a month and already they're giving us the finger.

The least that T-Mobile could do is give them out free in their stores if you can prove that you purchased a G1 and haven't already received one. This shouldn't be hard with account notes and whatnot.

This infuriates me and to think, I got an adapter with my phone.

You...are...wrong. Plain and simple. This is not a bait and switch by any interpretation of the definition. They did not offer you something and send you something else. End of story. The contents, as stated on the t-mobile website are:

1GB SD Card
Battery
Charger
USB Cable
Stereo Hands-Free Headset

*Nowhere* does it state "3.5mm to HTC 11pin adapter". Plain and simple. People were not promised something they did not get.

If you want something that was not originally advertised when you purchased the phone, you sure should have to pay for it. This is not a promotional change, this is a packaging change. I understand that the phone has been out for less than a month, but it was a packaging change none the less. Also, how is T-Mobile "giving us the finger"? After reading what everyone who has called them have said, it seems that Customer Service is not aware that such a small change in packaging has taken place. Truthfully, this change was probably made by HTC and considering they just changed the type of Stereo Hands-Free Headset that came in the box.

I can understand about being a little upset, sure. Other people got something you didn't and, according to t-mobile's website, are paying the same as you (179.99 w/ a 2 year contract). Is this a reason to go after T-Mobile Customer Service to try and get one? I'll leave that up to you. My time is worth more than a $5 adapter personally.

Now, all that being said, has anyone tried to get a replacement headset? I would think that would be the better way to go about getting one of these, as the 3.5mm to HTC 11pin adapter + cheap headphones is my stereo hands-free headset. Replacing the whole phone though? Really? That just seem silly to me.

I got the adapter, I simply think it's bull**** that others who paid the same price as I did are getting the finger. If you're going to ream someone with a two-year contract, at least extend the adapter reach-around courtesy to everyone. Don't try and break down my phrasing when you should understand the basic principle behind my post. You expressed clearly that you understood it in the quote above.

Since you failed to answer my question last time, I'll re-ask it. How is T-Mobile giving people the finger? I'm yet to see anyone say "They have it and know about it but aren't giving it to me.". Think about it from this perspective. This is a minor part change. What's more likely here, T-Mobile is trying to screw customers over, or they aren't aware that such a minor part change has happened?

Oops. You didn't buy it late enough.

Let's apply it to a real-world setting. Say you checked out and then all of a sudden, the person behinds you starts jumping up and down with glee. What's going on here! You ask. The checker replies "Oh, well since he bought his device later than you, he gets extra accessories."

Is that bait and switch? By the very definition? No. I know you love your literal definitions. What it IS is something that is more than understandable to be upset about, which again, you clearly stated you empathize with, right?

I love how you're arguing with me despite agreeing with me just because of the phrases I chose to use.

SEEMS THAT THEY ARE
COMING WITH AN ADAPTER

I was at the T-mobile store returning my G1 within the 14-day period (due to battery life and other issues, including no updates[which may have relieved my battery issues, had I gotten ANY update -- still on RC19)

But there were multiple people getting G1's, (and figuring that I was going to just be swapping mine out to get another 14 days to play with it and wait to see if the update helped with some of my issues with the G1...)

So, I went up to one of the guys that had just bought it, and asked him to check if it came with a headset or an adapter

...as he checked I was looking at the box to see if it said anything different than mine did (w/o adapter) -- both said the same thing like 'stereo headset'...but sure enough his had a nice little adapter.

In the end, the store was out of Black G1's so I have to wait, but I'm certain my next one will have an adapter...as will probably all of the G1's that shipped after the initial rush of buyers (and complaints)

I hope this clears things up.

Also, I do think its a bit cheap to not want to spend $5 for an accessory...but to actually get a quality one, you'll be paying more that that. All the Cheap accessories on eBay are just that, cheap..and poorly made(from my past experience)

At least with this adapter you know its coming right from HTC and you can complain to t-Mobile if it breaks or is defective

[my $.02]

I got a G1 with the headphone adapter a week ago, but my battery is a matte one with the same part number as yours. That said, I usually get 30+ hours worth of moderate usage out of a charge on it. Today I've been using it pretty heavy, though. Since I unplugged it from the charger this morning I've been surfing the web, playing games and spent about 3hrs straight playing MP3s off the SD card and I'm currently at 33%, all with Wi-Fi on (and GPS for about an hour). Should be good for the rest of the day, and probably unitl tomorrow morning if I lay off goofing around with it.

yep, I've started to notice that my "R" button is slightly lower than the rest of my keys. I previously had, (well still own), the tmoible MDA, yet another HTC product
it too started having the button flattening problem, I had 2 of them. Eventually I had about 4-5 keys which 90% of the time stopped working, that is unless I mashed down
on the said key SUPER hard.

i suspect, due to my track record with HTC hardware, that those who use the slide out qwerty moderately will soon face this in the next six months or so. The thing that makes
the G1 worse is that it wants you to use the keyboard for everything. not just text messaging and stuff... but your full web experience needs.

I think they should make the hardware more 'hardy' because people are using their thumbs on these things, which I can only assume are stronger than the average finger. Kinda
sux that I know I'll have to order a replacement in a few months. I'm going to let it ride out and see what happens. But this has been my experience with HTC hardware.

My keyboard on the HTC 6700 still works like it did on day one three years ago... it's everything else that is broken on it. :)

I have used the adapter with my Dash for a year now and with the G1 for a week. They sound pretty good. I noticed on the one that came with the G1 the volume is not as loud as the one I had bought off ebay. I'm not into loud music so it does not bother me. The quality sounds good to me though.

Purchased one of the adapters from androidcommunity's front page and upon receiving it, doesn't work. lol. Is there some setting you have to change at all? Or you just plug it in and it switches from phone to headphones? I plug it in and some earbuds that I use with my mp3 player and the sound still comes out of my phone. =( *Sadface*

No you should just be able to plug them in and have it work. I bought an adapter that had the same plug and it did not work. It was for a motorola and even though they are same plug it does just what you said.

I've bought adapter from hanhealitems.com the first one they send was motorola, which didn't work, the second one i've got from them as a replacement wasn't motorola, not sure what it was but it actualy had same asymetrical conector as g1, it warked fine, i was able to listen to music trugh my headphones, but here is the catch, my friend called me while I was listenning to music, i've picked up the phone and disconected the adapter, after that my speaker in phone went really quite, almost silent, tried reseting the phone, didn't help, had to replace the phone, so be careful!!

if you bought a pre-order G1, how do you get the OE headphone adaptor now? The people at the T-mobile store are totally useless...
