I have been trying to convert video to play on the G1 but nothing has worked. Is there any shareware that works or will I have to purchase a video converter ?
Thanks

I use one called Videora. U can google it and it'll be probably the first one. When asked what ur using just click iPhone3G, it will convert it into .mpeg4, the one the G1 uses.
Once converted, just drag it onto ur SD card and u should be good to go. :)

Thanks for the Videora tip. Which format did you use to convert the video. I am still not getting any of the videos to show on my phone. When I try to play them it says there is no video on my phone. Thanks

Gee, I like SuperC . . . but then again, I like to fiddle with settings!
The GUI is pretty goofy, I'll admit.

mplayer/mencoder
took a little while to figure out the right settings but was worth it, videos look and sound great, can convert *any* video/DVD to G1 format with one command
most of the paid and free converters listed here are using mplayer/mencoder in the background. don't see why anyone would want to pay for a buggy GUI, since mencoder is free and open source.

I use Badaboom, which utilizes the CUDA framework to make your GPU do incredibly fast transcoding. It has default settings for various platforms and can convert unprotected DVD files, too (VIDEO_TS folders).
I use the default settings for iPhone conversion (same resolution) and either check or uncheck the settings for full-screen or widescreen depending on the video itself.
There are numerous settings for compression level, audio settings, screen size, etc.
I converted a two-hour movie in about 1 minute and 30 seconds, with my GeForce 8800 512MB card. Most small videos (either low res to begin with, or short time duration) convert in the blink of an eye.
It's $30 (or was when I bought it). If you have an nVidia card (CUDA capable) and convert a lot video for your mobile devices, it's absolutely worth every penny. Converting several episodes of a show, or a few movies is a snap, and faster than anything else I've ever seen. The secondary benfit of this speed is that it won't tak eyou forever to realize you've made a mistake, over-compressed, or want to change a setting.
