my fellow gphoners im saying good bye to android and google for awhile, i cant use this phone anymore. there are just too many glaring omissions from this phone that are standard on other phones.

once again it is too difficult to text people, hard to open up my inbox, i have delete messages so that it will run faster and i am not fond of the conversation threading.

mms is very limited and does not read all file types and i cannot save the mms image to my phone.the email program is hard to use and takes a long time to load and cannot download attachments. i missed important emails that needed attention because it is so difficult to open my inbox, that i just didnt bother with it.

the notification bar although can be informative really isnt useful for my calender because if i clear my calender notification the calender does not remind me of my appointment anymore unless i check my calender myself.

the keybard is very hard to use and is not responsive. i found that the markets apps are not very useful at the moment in general and had only downloaded a few apps. it seems like there are no standards or an anything goes in the market and that goes for the quality of the programs too.

after a while i noticed that all my widgets i had on my 3 different home screens i had only used under half of them and didnt really need them. and also because theres no onscreen keyboard it is very cumbersome (i know i know) to open the phone and communicate with friends.

and that became the dealbreaker. last night while i was out with friends carrying on conversations. i would get a text from another friend and try to quickly text them while talking to other people and i had to open the phone and respond. there is also no video recorder and i had such a great time last night i couldnt record any of it.

im going back to windows mobile land and watch android and google and see their progress but in the meantime i cant use a phone that is unable to do what i need to do on a daily basis for communication, entertainment and business.

so good bye everyone
take care

fair enough mate. i hope you find what you need in another phone.

I cant really say much as mines still on its way but am going to stick with it from the day it (hopefully) arrives.

2 of my housemates have iphones they are impressed by it and always have em out "showing them off" d^cks for it to be honest... android has so much more potential and when the bugs are fixed i hope to see you back here :)

All the best James.

While I understand that Android is "new" and its only going to get better, WTF was the Android team thinking when they designed this? Using features on standard $100 low-tech phones and also Blackberrys and the iPhone should have given them a good template to use. Some of the OPs complaints are valid, especially the things that almost ANY phone can do (like saving images).

Come on Android team, do something to make us not regret buying this phone!!

i understand man i was thinking about doing the same, you can only do so much with potential if you need results now

What they need to do is recall all the phones and put android on a new device( say touch pro but with a better touch screen). And let all the current g1 users exchange it for the new one. I no they would loose alot of money . But never gonna happen .

These complaints are echos of the first complaints by iPhone-ers. Look how far that platform has come! We also have some things that the iPhone doesn't/will never have.

To each his own, you are free to whatever device you want to use.

Android is a young platform, and already it is more functional to me for the things that I need than the iPhone is.

As for the difficulty getting into the inboxes...what do you mean? My shortcuts on the desktop (one to GMail, one to Messaging) bring me right in there in less than a second. What troubles were you having?

For the record... I'm absolutely in love with this phone even though my honeymoon phase ended a while ago...

Call me crazy, but I like my G1 the more I use it. I'm using all of its major features and I wouldn't go back to my Blackberry Curve. The only thing particularly impressive about it was the glowing trackball. No chicks ever asked to check out my 8320 either ;)

Don't let the door hit you in the . . . apple!

Google really needs to clear the air and give us the features thats even present on 'Fisher Price' cell phones!!! U would think the developers never had a cell phone!!!

I dont think G1 team ever saw a phone, used emails or understood the concept of testing. Google's long lived reputation of never-ending "beta" service continues...

make sure thats returnable too
i had one for a week when they came out
the worst, slowest, least usable phone i have ever used.

oh and it gets twice as hot as the G1
and battery life is similar

(the pro is a bit better in that respect as its got a larger battery)

I'm tempted to get rid of the G1, but I'm not gonna change carriers, and I don't feel like paying a ton of money to buy an unlocked phone -- if something else better comes out; may be I'll talk my mom into letting me use her contract extension to get a good price on something else.

LMAO!!! Thats true. Is there a way we can email Google to discuss our concerns about our phones? Do they have a blog somewhere we can complain I mean discuss what features we dont have and want?

All the problems you list I haven't encountered one. Onnly thing I would like to be added on the phone is a flash player. Windows mobile would be downgrading yourself buddy. Don't be a semp

pllb

Yeah, flash would be nice though I'm sure it will come in time. I'm certain google would like to see their platform succeed as much if not more than us, so I imagine we will get it at some point.
