Im wanting to get a G1 but i have been hearing a lot about them malfunctioning or "getting a bad one". So my question is does t-mobile have a warranty for the G1 (not return policy) similar to the iPhone? the iPhone comes with a free one year warranty. and also does the G1 have a manufactures warranty, say i bought a G1 of ebay and had some problems with it, could i send it back to the manufacturer for a replacement?

i spoke with a dude at the t-mobile store and he said in order to obtain a G1 through t-mobile i would have to open an account, and purchase a data package (roughly 35 a month), which could be terminated after one month. im curious if i would still have that return policy and warranty. would i still be able to use there tech support?

the price of buying a G1 one ebay and purchase one through the store is about the same, if not alil more expensive on ebay.

(btw im wanting to run this G1 on the att network)

thanks!

If you get the G1 from eBay - Tmobile will most likely refuse to do any support on it and you will eventualy have to go through the manufacturer HTC.

Getting plan and then discontinuing it - well I do not know but the same thing may still occur as you IMEI unit number is not in their system.

I may be wrong - but T-Mobile hold the cards in their hands on this one.

if you cancel service, you are required to return the handset obviously... if not they will charge you the full price of the phone and the early termination fee... if your service is cancelled but your one year warranty is up, tmobile will no longer assist you, but your one year warranty DIRECTLY through the manufacturer HTC would still be available... you would just have to go through the pains of handling it yourself through them, which from my experience is a 3 week turnaround for regular warranty exchanges...

technically, they should be able to sell you the g1 outright, but if i were them i'd hold them for t-mobile customers only because i doubt they make commission on just selling you the phone straight out... wouldn't be surprised if it was extremely difficult for you to find a store that will sell you one for at&t
