first of all, anyone with squeaks, send your phone back now! I just recieved my replacement G1 friday and its so much better than the preordered one. No sqeaks, and the battery last about 4× longer. It also came with an adapter so you can use all of your old head phones! Didnt get that with the preorder. The keyboard is better as well. I get more feedback from the buttons. Everything is faster. BTW, It also came with the update RC28.

it came with an adapter? 3.5mm? damn if it did ima hit up tmo for a set. that would be so wrong if loyal customers didnt get it and newbies or peeps that got the phone after the pre-order did. ima raise hell in a tmo store! thanks for the info.

you dont have insurance? that sucks. atleast you have your 1yr manufacturer warranty. yea if it creaks or you have manufacturer problems then im almost 100% sure you can bring it in. they have to exchange it, cuz its not your fault.

I second that!

My original G1 creaked when pushed in the lower right corner of the screen.
Got the replacement on Thursday. No creak + headphone adapter + RC28

GPS seems a bit worse at finding my location though but as RDILLZ said the battery
life does seem much better. I wonder if that has anything to do with the GPS. I did notice that my original G1 would have times where the GPS icon would be on quite a bit (couldn't turn it off from OS or other apps) and the battery life seemed to be quite a bit worse when this happened.

Overall I'm much happier with then new G1

think I may go down to the local T-Mo store Monday then, the keys in the left corner are pressed in. Do I just bring in the box and all the contents and do the replacement there or do they send away for it? if they send away, do i get to the keep the phone until it comes in?

bring everything in and demand a new phone. give them hell. (thats what i would do) they might give you a new phone right there since its defective. but whatever happens you should update us on this thread. im sure we would all like to know what happened. good luck.

I called T-Mobile end of October and they sent the replacement after about a week. I got my original from the T-Mobile web site and delivered on 10/21.

I would try the store first then try calling customer support.

Yeah even if you have to send it back while you wait for the new one...do it! I believe I was past the 14 days, but I didn't care! I called, let them know my prob, which was really their prob, and they told me it would be no prob!lol..seriously its unexceptable and you should let them know that!

I just sent the preorder back yesterday. I called and gave tmo the tracking #s, then they credited my account for the phone & shipping cost!

Well I called on Nov 6 and asked for a replacement phone under the 30 days buyers remorse policy(California), they shipped it out on Nov 7, UPS shows that I will be getting it on Nov 11.. Hopefully I will get one of the new batch...

Well, it seems I am the only one who has no problems with first G1 I received. Battery life improved after I got first update to RC29 (RC28 was skipped for me for some reason) and now lasts instead of 2.5-3 days - 4 - 4.5 days.
I am no moderate user though but I do use phone and do talk a lot :) ...

No creaks (DIY fix) and everything else is just as you are explaining on your second phone. Keyboard is good, everything works fast, very stable, no problems whatsoever... I am still testing it and as you said I still have 1 year warranty to go by due to my 14 days past about 4 days ago...

under what conditions does t-mo not take back a phone? let's say you accidentally dropped the phone from out of your lap when getting out of a car and there's a couple indentations in the corner of the phone...

I called in to customer care about last Wednesday, I ordered during the pre-order and they are sending me a refurbished! Does that sound about right? Because my trackball isn't as sensitive as when I got it..and I know there is a 30 day return policy in California but I pre-ordered so I don't know if that counts or what? The refurb is already on its way..so I dunno...any thoguhts?

When I did my replacement over the phone through customer care, they had me go to the local store (G1s are not sold in my non-3G market) to have the employees verify no physical or water damage. The employees called in, verified no damage, then they did my replacement no questions asked.

Since I was beyond the 14 days, they did a post-exchange. This means that I got to keep using my current G1. They sent me a brown box with JUST the phone in it...I had to keep my own battery, back cover, and MicroSD card.

My replacement did NOT come with a headset adapter or a software update...I am still on RC19.

The customer care rep id waive my replacement shipping charge, however...I had my replacement to my door the next day after I called, for free. I love the big pink T.

The "refurbished" thing is part of their script...they told me the same thing, and I got a brand new device...just didn't have any of the accessories with it. It literally looks like they took a new one out of the box and took the battery and back cover off of it and sent it to me. The original screen protector (not a replacement) was still there, and I still have RC19, which means it prolly has not connected to the network before I got it.

If you live in California and you have 30-day return policy here is how it should be: once you received the phone you count your 30 days from that date. You most likely received it on October 20th let's say and you have until November 20th, 2008 to return the whole thing.

Now here is the fishy part - You should NOT accept refurbished unit. You have right to get brand new phone under 30-day policy. That would mean you are paying 179.99 for refurb and that's just not right. I do not like refurbs but if that's replacement warranty agreement - oh well... but, you being under 30-day return policy you should get brand new phone.

My advice is: cancel that replacement and tell them why. Go return your phone (to store if you got it there, or call 611 and return it to them) and then order brand new one because I think that T-Mobile is trying to play you out on this one.

So far T-Mobile was ok to me but that's just because I like to yell and scream :) ... jk - but you have to be demanding to get your things done...

All phones that are sent without battery cover and just as bare bone units are refurbished no matter how new they look like. It is not like getting refurb phone from third party store where scuffs may appear, etc. T-Mobile sent me about 3-4 units as replacements (refurbs) and they looked brand new - not a single scuff or scratch or anything ... however, I confirmed all times these were refurbs.

So, once under 30-day warranty you are entitled to get brand new phone with all accessories and return the previous package with everything in the box you have received the first time.

Your G1 replacement request will most likely be refused. Since you did not purchase it from them they have no responsibility towards your unit.

You will be most likely directed to contact the manufacturer to resolve any issues. In this case that would be HTC

Seems like a good idea but I ask for a replacement and they send me the box that has the phone and the envelope to send the "defective" one. In the box what does it contain? The phone of course but what about the 3.5mm adapter? I remember when I had problems with my Samsung T-619 (I had to send it in 6 times and eventually they let me get the KRZR) all they did was send me the phone WITHOUT the battery and the envelope to send the defective one. So if I ordered a replacement for the G1 would they do the same? If they did that really wouldnt help the 3.5mm adapter and battery problem since i am just using my old battery... Is there something specific I have to ask for?

Replacement phones have better battery life not because of battery but all the updates that recently took place. Battery quality it seems is totally ok - it is just OS using to much of the battery.

I did not quite understand your question but once you get UNIT without back cover and no battery - just bare bone unit - you got Refurb with no doubt.

The past few days my phone has become excessively squeeky and creaky, sounds as if I'm walking on old wooden floors. I just called customer care and told them about the issue and they are sending me a new device via express with no charge.

Of course for them to do the exchange, they had to do some troubleshooting and wanted to wipe the device... Kind of funny since the software has nothing to do with the hardware issue. I just pretended I did it and everything was good to go.

Dilemma Dilemma. So I'm on my third phone. The first one had a ridiculously loose screen. Second one was nice and sturdy but has a dead pixel. Now this one creaky, squeaky, and kind of loose screen (but I can live with it). I did the DIY fix for the creaking using tape between where the screen closes and it actually seems to be ok. Not sure if I should just keep the phone the way it is or return it. I might look crazy if I try to return it again and I'll probably get another phone with similar problems or maybe even worse. I have to say the phone is great though and is defiantly the best phone I've had. Do you have to return it to the same store that it was bought at or can it be any T mobile store?

Hmm depends on manufacture date I would assume. When I got my first I had a super squeaky screen, second one had a twisted frame on it, this 3rd one has a somewhat wobbily screen on it and came with RC28 and a 3.5mm adapter instead of RC19 and no adapter like the other two.

Are you serious or was there some sarcasm that was intended and I just missed it? To me the point of having a device with so many capabilities is to reduce the number of devices you carry around with you. I used to have to carry a palm pilot, cell phone, ipod, and laptop if I wanted to browse the intenet/watch movies. If I have one device that will give me the functionality (which I now do!) Then why wouldn't I take advantage? I have my 1GB card completely filled with music and am waiting on the price of the 16GB to drop so I can then fill it with all kinds of tv shows, music, and movies for those long plane rides. Anyone who doesn't use the phone for a music player is not taking full advantage of the possibilities this fantastic device provides. Those are just my thoughts, all of which were typed from my G1 by the way!

The adapter was a nice touch, but im far more satisfied with the build quality and batt. life on this replacement! Seems like we were cheated for being early. Its just bad judgement not to send your sqeaky phone back. Mine had gotten so noisy, with every touch, I couldnt stand it. & now I see it wasnt the only prob. This new one is outstanding. Are people really asking for a new replacement to have an adapter?

The adapter that costs about $6 dollars?

Oh man. People in here are really something.

I really don't know if I am a lucky person, but my phone has not given me any problems whatsoever (aside for the 3G connection when my free data expired, but there were problems in the city, not my G1)

My phone is perfect. All keys are perfect. Doesn't make any sounds. GPS is working. Market is working. Phone call is working.
Update is working.

Many people here are too picky.

Let me ask a question to the people that have gotten a replacement based on the phone being "squeaky".

Do you have to send your G1 first, T-mobile receives it, and THEN they send you a replacement?

What if the squeaking sound is a hardware problem that will continue?

I remember reading people having a squeaking sound after a few days or weeks they gotten their G1.

What if this is the same?

What if in two, three weeks the sound returns?

What will you do?

Does anyone know if you have to exchange your phone at the same store it was bought at? or can it be a different one? I'm on the fence as to whether or not I should exchange. On one hand the creaks and squeaks aren't so bad with the fixes and I wonder if I'll just get anoter phone with more problems. On the other hand I want a phone that doesn't make annoying noises.

Yes, you have to return it to the store you purchased it in. And yes you're right, it's a bit of a gamble as to whether you get a phone that's better or worse than your current but the new batches supposedly resolve the creakiness.

well just woke up from my dad screaming and my mom bc she gotta another package from qvc . So I decided maybe one package is mine and I see that there's a little package( couldn't be mine to small) but it said national return center on it. So I open it and it's the phone with no back,no battery, nothing but the shell. I was pissed bc I was expecting a new one but instead I get a naked one. I don't really care as long as the phone works right. So far no creaking(knock on wood) . Also b4 I took the battery outta of my old one I notice the update( about time ) . Also it seems like my new one is still on rc19.

first of all, anyone with squeaks, send your phone back now!

I'm waiting on my replacement which should be here today, I also pre=ordered and it did the same as yours.

Well, you people made me do it....lol.

I just called T-Mobile and told them that my phone was having this horrible "squeak" sound (my phone in reality does have the sound, but is not as bad as the ones I've heard here. I think someone posted a Youtube video with the sound, and THAT WAS HORRIBLE).

Mine does make this sound. But I decided to call them, and representative said she spoke w/ her manager and he told her I can get a replacement.

I got mine on Oct 21st. So, I've had it for more than 14 days. Now today is 14th business day. I don't know if you count by days or business days.

Anyway, she said the same thing that a lot of people been writing here.

Remove sim card, battery, memory card, and back of the phone. She said I need to do a MASTER RESET before sending it, so my info is not stored on the phone.

She asked me if phone was damaged, water, etc. I said no.

They will ship it tomorrow (even though is a holiday, but UPS is open). I should get it this week.

After I get replacement, I have 7 days to return my old one, they will send me the box to send it back. If not, they charge me $376 bucks.

No charges. Nothing.

In regards to 3.5mm headphone adapter, she said she didn't even know it was shipping with replacement phones.

I told her if I get it, I get it. If not, no problem.

True that G...heh...ok dumb.

Anyway, if you have a bronze g1 with RC19, don't (I repeat: DO NOT) test the reboot bug. If you happen to test it anyway, don't try the work around (<return>cat<return>). I just did it and spent all morning trying to get my data network back...

Luckily my phone was under the buyer remorse period (14 days) so I order my new black one today. I never did get the data network back.

Also, consider sending all bronze g1s with RC19 back, they do not get updates. If you happen to do the above, do not reset the factory settings, you will be locked out of the phone...

Are we still able to telnetd into root with RC30?

Spoke with 4 reps. already. Heres my situation. Order mine online, receive it on the 31st. of Oct.

My G1 creaks when I barely slide open (not fully, barley nudge). I can tell something is wrong with it because behind the screen, its starting to create a trail or scratch from opening the screen. As if its digging in. Ive had it for 10 days now. It also lags a lot when I only have 5 txt. Messages.

I spoke to a rep threw chat. I informed them I need my phone, being that I am on call. So I asked if I can go to a local store and exchange it there. "Elisha T" informed me I can go to a store and get a new one.

I called a TM store and they had 6 left. They would hold one for me. They said to bring the box with all contents and receipt. I then told them I ordered it online. He told me I could NOT exchange it because it was on a different inventory. So that I would have to send it back threw mail.

Well, I can't be without a phone so I chated with a rep. This person couldn't help me. He told me to call 611 to get help.

I called customer service and I spoke with a very nice woman. I can tell she was really trying to help and she felt bad I wasn't satisfied with the phone. I gave her the info I was given. She confirmed that the phone had to be sent back to the original place it came from. I told her what was wrong with the phone. She told me to call Tech Support so they can fix the squeeking. LoL. That's a hardware issue.

So I don't know what to do. How can I just exchange it at a store. I don't want to be stuck with it being like this. Any suggestions?

I had a similar situation. This is what I did. I called 611 and asked to speak to someone in the "contract" department. Just keep asking they will not want to transfer you right away. I spoke to a very nice woman and explained that I preordered and was having issues with the phone and did not want to have to send it back before I was able to get a new one. She told me to send it via UPS and once I had a tracking # to call back with the number. She also put a memo in the system that I could walk into any T mobile store and purchase a new phone for the same price I paid during the presale. It worked for me, but not I have another phone with creaking.

So first of all I can't believe people are returning their phones due to a "creak". Not hating on anyone, but I WISH mine had only just creaked. Mine stopped booting completely. Had to send it back. According to UPS the replacement should be here tomorrow.

Now, here's the thing that's starting to worry me. I keep reading about everyone's replacement being just the phone and nothing else?!?!?! They had me send back EVERYTHING (CD, Manual, Charger, etc)....my expectation is that I'll have a brand new one (or even refurbished) with all of that with it.

Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Has anybody else had t-mobile ask them to do that and if there was a white circle in the phone? does that white circle indicate a bad phone?

no white circle indicates water damage if it turns red, the white sticker will absorb water and turn red or pink if water is exposed to it

My experience...

called CS and they were more than willing to help. Told them about the wobbly screen and the creaking noise. She told me that this was the first that she has heard about it... yeah right. Anyway, she told me that I would have to deal with the "G1 Techs". They are the only ones that could process the exchange.

After talking to them for five minutes, I realized I knew more about this phone than they did. They also told me that they had no record of this problem being reported. My only option was to send the phone to them, have them determine that it was not something I did to the phone, and then they would replace it if it was not caused by me.

I called back three times and spoke to three different "specialists". They all told me the same thing. I told them that a hardware warranty should cover the hardware. They said it would cover things like the screen going black, keys not lighting up, etc. It does not cover the screen.

Warning to all... Get yours exchanged before your 14 days runs out. Otherwise you may be stuck with it.

I don't know if you already solved this problem or not. but here my story goes..
when I tried to exchange my phone, they told me I have to send mine first and they will send me when I have the tracking number to prove that I sent it.
so I asked why I can't have the phone first because I don't wanna be without a phone until the new one gets here. then they told me, he can put a note on my acct so after I send my phone, I can just walk into any store (of course after I call CS to give the ups tracking number) and get a "loaner phone"
it's not gonna be any fancy phone of course, but if you really need a phone for just calls and msgs and stuff, then it will work. If they really can't send you a new one first.

I decided not to exchange mine because I had to pay the shipping. (I was gonna change only to change the color)

depends on which G1 package you receive...if it's a replacement, you keep your battery and if it's a complete package, you send the battery back.

Question to everyone who has gotten a replacement - did you do a warranty exchange or a remorse exchange?

If they are sending you new G1 and then you will send back your original G1 -- then you probably did a WARRANTY exchange.

If you had to send back your original G1, and then wait for your new G1 to arrive -- then you probably did a REMORSE exchange.

And did you get a full new box, or just a new handset?

I am the UK customer, and is there any UK user get the replacement? I called the CS about it, they told me UK version is differ from US version, you can exchange, but nothing will be changed, you still can not get the adaptor of headset!

Any UK user have changed one?
And you guys who got the new one, what is your battery life now??

I guess it depends on which CS rep you get. I was explicitly told to send everything back. So when UPS drops my replacement off today it better be in a box with everything!!!
They sent me a whole new package with the adapter thing and i don t even use it as an mp3 player but hey thanks...

I just got of the phone with T-Mobile and they're sending me a brand new unit (overnighted free of charge). The really cool thing was a got my phone through a company promotion and they said the phone was reduced for that promotion to $139 so they're refunding me the difference. All I can say is it pays to read these forums.

Guys, I have not called in to try to get an exchange, but when you all do you have to be ADAMANT about what you want, if the rep you're talking to doesn't give you what you want DEMAND that you speak to their supervisor. If you work it correctly they should send you a brand new phone, and when you get the new one you will then send back your current phone, this way you will NOT go without a phone at all. You have to remember that you are speaking with salespeople, so you have to take a "salesperson" mentality into the conversation, and DO NOT let them close you. Do not take anything less than what you want, and stay on the phone as long as it takes to get what you want. I used to work for Sprint, and Verizon, and this was how it worked while at those two employers. Anytime a customer call got all the way to me I did just about whatever they wanted because it wasn't worth it to the company to say no to that customer. If I said yes, the customer got their phone replaced, possibly costing the company anywhere between 100-500 dollars, if I said no, the company possibly loses their contract that could've earned the company thousands of dollars over the years. Not only that, but then that customer would tell other customers about their bad experience, and we would then lose other customers future business, or current contracts. If you get far enough up the ladder you WILL get what you want, you just have to be patient enough and NEVER say "okay.." For this to work you usually have to call during normal business hours to ensure that there are plenty of supervisors around for you to talk to. DON'T GIVE UP GUYS!! Get the phone you paid for and you believe you deserve!!

Why would you even say that, when you are one of the "OCD" people your complaining about.

You where able to walk in a store and get a new battery cover. (for the squeaking problem, no less!!) Those of us who live in area's where t-mobile has no 3G, don't have that option. Only stores in 3G area's (which is basically only major metropolitan area's) have G1's in stock. So our only option is to do a full exchange. We can't just run down to the store and swap out parts, like some hypocrites I know.....

Ive got a couple questions regarding return policies, if anybody has an idea...

My 14 day remorse period ends on the 17th, and I am considering returning the phone outright, cancelling my contract and going to verizon for the bb storm.

I have various reasons for this, including all the gripes most of us are having with the G1, and yes, I know it will be better in a few months, aside from hardware issues which is a problem for me. Also I found out I get a 15% discount on verizon services through work, and the 3g network is more established atm.

I realize many people are looking past the hardware issues basically pioneering android as the first users, but that is not the type of person i am.

If I decide to return it, how many days do I have? If I request a replacement before my first 14 days are up, and am still unsatisfied with the replacement after some time, am I still able to return it?

Just sent my G1 back to LaGrange today. I have postpartum depression. I had to revert to my old BlackBerry 8700g--great Bberry, but nothing compares to the G1.

And might I add that the T-Mobile reps are fantastically pleasant and helpful. I actually call them everyday just to chat and shoot the proverbial sh*t. My goal is to break one of them into yelling at me to shut up. I'll let you all know...

Thanks for the tip. I called back and asked for pda support at the voice prompt. I was directed to pda support, which is also G1 support, and a very nice woman helped me out. She is sending me a replacement phone and a new battery. She told me to keep the battery I have, the back of the phone, the SIM card, and the micro SD card. I got my replacement today. :) (I did full remorse exchange, and got a whole new package.)

A few things to note.

It does seem sturdier so far.

The battery seems to be much better so far. My first battery would hardly last 5-7 hours, with almost NO use and NO 3G.

I think it is better to run the battery down ALL the way before charging it the first time - (drain it ALL the way, i.e. keep turning it on, until it wont turn on anymore) - and turn it off while it charges to full (takes about 2 hrs, for light to turn green)

Even if you didn't do that at first -- from what I have read -- doing that 3 full cycles in a row, is supposed to make a significant improvement if your battery is draining fast.
My first keyboard was not caved in incredibly bad or anything -- but it drooped enough that right around "B" it was virtually flush with the casing, which made it harder to type. This new phone doesn't have that problem.

It does seem to be running faster and smoother, but that might just be because I haven't installed hardly anything yet.

It's RC28.

Oh, and I didn't get the hallowed USB --> 3.5mm adapter (which i don't really care about, and wouldn't use anyway)

I think I linked this earlier, but just in case, here is a thread I made detailing what I found out, talking in depth with 5+ reps.

I got my replacement yesterday, like some others just the phone. My screen is starting to have problems with not only creaking but when the screen is pushed up, half of the screen turns black for about 3 to 4 seconds. Not only that but talking over the phone my phone clicks out and the memory card reader seems to stop working every couple of hours. My rep put in a request that I receive a brand new phone, but didn't guarentee it. If my next replacement creaks I'm not really going to care, I just hope its not like the one I got.

My old G1 (I pre-ordered 1st day), menu button was pushed down. It could still work, but there is a difference in touch between old and replacement.

It doesn't squeak. But of course, old G1 started that way, so I guess I have to give it time. If it does start squeaking, I will keep this replacement, unless the sound is horrible.

To anyone who got a replacement phone after the 14 day period: Was it refurbished? If it was are you happy with it compared to your previous phone. I have an issue. The phone I have right now it very sturdy and damn near perfect. Except there is one dead pixel. Not sure if I should get a refurbished phone and take my chances or just live with a sturdy phone with a dead pixel.

I don't think so, my first g1 did nothing but creak.

You don't think so what? That statement doesn't make any sense.

How you said that the problems are apart of the package because my first phone did none of those problems that have been posted except for the screen creak.

I have received my update today (RC30).

I received my replacement on Thursday, but I had to go pick it up because I missed delivery guy. I turned on the new replacement around 8:30pm and I received my update when I woke up today. So I had to wait 2 full days (Friday and Saturday) to have it.

So, T-Mobile does send you the update.

I was going to give them until tomorrow, anyway.

But thank God, I have latest update.

Well I got mine last week and it has the creaking thing going on. I would not send it back because of that. I think they will all do that at some point. However I did have to send mine back because the touch screen quit working. So we will see if the new one is any better on creaking. I have my doubts. This sucks because of being within the two week period they are sending me a new one. Good that it's new sucks that I have to wait until Dec 8th.

I thought those squeeky sounds were normal. I have insurance ... I should stop by the T-Mobile store and see what's up.

I had a G1 that would squeek when I slid it open. It also lagged. After talking to 3 reps threw chat, 2 reps at the stores, and 4 on customer services, I was told I couldn't walk into a TM store and get a replacement because my online order was a different invoice db.

I had to send it thru ups and wait 5 days to get a new one. I really didn't have time to not have a phone so I just forgot about it and decided to keep it. I got off of work early this past Friday and a package from UPS came. It was a brand new G1!!! I had just had to return my current G1. I LOVE T-MOBILE!!! I wasn't even expecting it!

Update on my replacement, after a week or so of use.

Everything good I mentioned before is still doing good.

I just want to add that it ALSO seems not be having the wifi problems that my first G1 did. (if left idle, when pick up phone and try to use net, I would have to turn off wifi and turn it back on, to get it to work -- sometimes even had to restart my router --- but not anymore! it works like a charm now!)

Please read this thread :

http://gadgetsonthego.net/2008/11/t-mobile-sending-out-new-battery-for-t.html

I checked my battery, it has part no : 35H00106-02M, but time life is very bad. I charge my G1 fully in morning and use low bright screen, no wifi, no bluetooth, no 3g, no GPRS and G1 is low battery in evening.

If you read the thread, battery which has part no : 35H00106-02M is replacement battery. But battery is still bad.

I'm from Vietnam and buy an G1 on ebay. My G1 come without 3.5 jack, xxx-02M battery and fw version 1.0. The device usualy warm when I use Wifi or play game and out of battery fastly.

I searched on ebay, I found some reaplacement battery (not OEM) with 1200mAh, who checked this type, please write a review, and who can help me call to Tmobile to ask about my case, the battery is so bad and I dont have issurance and I'm not in US.

funbacon, where'd you get that battery? i stumbled upon your post via Google. i was searching for part no 35h00106-02M - the part # of the "OEM HTC" battery i just purchased from a reputable seller on eBay. and none of the "that's what you get from shopping on eBay" crap. anyone who actively shops/sells on eBay knows that the amount of negative experiences are far less than ones i have had in normal retail situations.

back to my point though, it looks like these are bogus (which i am happy to have guinea pigged myself for). here are some pics of the packaging/battery...

there's a "tape" wrapper vs. actual plastic. it came pretty with 60-70% charge and i ran it from that to dead, lasting about 13 hours. i was VERY happy as this was = to the original battery that came w/ the phone. the battery then took 6-7 hours to charge and died within 20 minutes. it's hard powered-off the phone twice. i yanked that bugger out and put the original back in and all is fine.

i'm working this out w/ the seller right now, but i wanted to get this content on the Web.

there's also a thread going on over at HoFo (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1451852&page=19&pp=15) and i'm starting to see a clearer picture now. granted, those people were trying 1600 mah battery in some cases, but the results of this battery are the same. and how the F does one part # cover two battery capacities?

hopefully this helps someone avoid the same issue.

shlongwoodian, it looks fake compare to the original one.

Actually, the battery in the pics above closely resembles the replacement battery I got from T-Mobile. I just compared the original to the new one I got from T-Mobile not a few moments ago. So I wouldn't worry too much, schlongwoodian.

I don't know why you think it looks "fake", tengtengvn, aside from the fact that it doesn't look like the original (which is not surprising if it's a new revision). The packaging does look suspect, though (-: And I have read that electronic items off of eBay are often very well-made counterfeits.

shlongwoodian
12-25-2008, 06:36 PM
well, it's definitely a bunk battery regardless. i can see why tengtengvn would say it's a fake though. the print on the outside - the htc INNOVATION text - is blurred. not saying this with any scientific approach other than, i wear nike sb and dunks a lot. when ya shop for them - especially on eBay - you see the fake ones from china all over the place. there are very specific things that distinguish legit from fake. so, again, i don't know for a fact that it's a "fake," but it's enough to arouse suspicion.

also, the point that is important to me is, this is not OEM. if it was OEM, it wouldn't be in that crappy packaging. well, maybe it would, since OEM stuff comes in plain/no packaging. who knows, i'm definitely gonna get the seller to send me another and give him a chance before taking any further steps.

he's got a HUGE feedback score, so his business is important to him. he's probably taking the approach of, "most people are morons and won't know." i can only do what i can do, which is report him to eBay for selling fake goods. he cares about that or he doesn't, and eBay and PayPal don't side with sellers, period. one unfortunate thing that in this instance, will help me tremendously.

i'm gonna swing by the T-Mobile store tomorrow and take a look at the ones they have there. they come in those blister packs, like the "shell" case i have in some pics up here. i'm pretty sure i remember those not having a "tape" cover, vs. the plastic shell that the original one (the truly OEM one) had.

i'll keeps err'one posted! weeeeee!!!
