Okay so last night I took the wrong bus to go see my girlfriend...
fell asleep on the bus and woke up and got off the next nearest stop...
next thing you know...i have no clue where I'm at. I kept trying to remember the street names and what not.
Next thing you know, I remember about the GPS function on my G1. Turn it on and zoom out of the map. SURPRISINGLY, i was only a mile away :o
Walked and saw her which made me extremely happy :)
Oh and I had a situation last week when my roommate and I were at Best Buy and he was looking for a new game... NBA2k9 and I scanned it and it saved him a few bucks.
Does anyone have situations where the G1 helped you??

At Halloween party and wanted something to eat but was in an unknown (and bad) neighborhood. Went to the corner market for stale twinkies or what not and remembered my G1.
Pressed my Location, typed in HEB (common grocery in Texas) and it found the nearest one and I got directions and all was good in the world.
It sounds all weird and fanboy, but the G1 has really changed my life. I mean it really is different to always know where you are, how to get where you want to be, have access to information about almost anything all in your pocket all the time.
Much like I don't remember what my life was like before having the internet (and Google), I think I will feel the same about my G1 soon.
As to the fanboy remark...I'm sure iPhone 3G users feel the same, and I understand why. I just happened to HATE Apple so I never jumped on that. And they didn't really sell it to me as what I wanted. I wanted something that I could really USE in daily life, and they were selling something neat and sexy.
If they'd really told me how powerful these devices are I probably would have tried the iPhone back in the day as well. But I'm glad I waited.

I had two situations, but boringly enough, they're just like the OP's suggestions. I got lost on the way to a party, and pulled out the phone and let google maps get me there no problem. just the week before, when i didn't have the phone, I got lost and had no such luck.
Also, I was shopping at Best Buy and used ShopSavvy to get reviews on some things I was looking to buy, and to confirm that i wasn't grossly overpaying.
The only other time was when I was at Target last week, and I pulled out ShopSavvy to do the same thing with a new cutter block and screen for my razor. Much to my surprise, the price had fallen quite a bit online, so I just went right ahead and put it back on the shelf and ordered it from amazon.com right there on the spot. That was nice. Saved me $15.

yes - i went to the cash machine (ATM) and it would not give me any money - so i carried on walking into work - while logging on to my internet banking. Saw that some money had gone out - applied for a temporary overdraft which was instantly approved. arrived at a nother cash machine and took money out :)

Yeah its helped me a lot. Finding partys or places to eat, but also getting my emails on the spot so when I got my new mortgadge deal through I could look at it stright away and get it sorted n the spot.

It was great this past week in Vegas. My buddy and I always like trying local restaurants off the strip. We discovered a few new places to eat. Aside from that, it was nice being able to read reviews before running into a bad restaurant. It definitely helped this time around!

My G1 helped me out a few times this week. Had an appt. and made a wrong turned, looked at my G1 to get back on track. Today I went to dinner with my family and didn't know how to get there. My sis gave me directions, but my G1 gave me shorter directions :D.

I was on vacation last week in Mexico with a group but due to work circumstances I had to take a separate flight from everyone else. There were several miscommunications which led to me not knowing which resort I needed to go to. I ended up going to the wrong one and only realized it when they had no idea who I was or anyone else in my party. I had no cell service, but on a whim I turned on the phone's Wifi and happened to find the resort's wireless network. I searched through my email and found a message from a month or two ago that had the name of the correct resort in it. Once I had the name I just showed it to the resort staff and they told me how to get there.

This is a great thread and probably as good a sale pitch as any sales rep could give you - and honestly, this should be a G1 commercial. Showing not only how cool, functional and totally "Google enabled" the device is, but just what a life saver it can be as well.
Though I cant speak to any one specific situation where it has really helped me out (as of now) - I know in the future there will be a ton of chances to help me out.
As already stated:
Never be lost:
With the G1's GPS and google maps with street view application never be lost again, while also being able to see your final destination (in many cases with a street view!)
Save your money:
With shop savvy do you comparison shopping immediately, scan the bar code and know not only the price online, but other near retailers.
Dont forget the Lyrics:
With Tunewiki you not only can play your music, but you will also know the appropriate lyrics to go along with it, no more egg on your face for misunderstanding what is actually being said. Also, with youtube support you can also watch the videos that go along with your favorite music.
Keep your tank full:
With GasBot, you dont ever have to over pay for gas or worry about not finding a station in time.
Always know you situation:
With Locale your phone will always be appropriately set. Dont have your ringer go off in a meeting at work - or at the movie. Dont miss a phone call because you forgot to turn the ringer back on. Keep your battery healthy by having wifi off when you know you arent around a useable signal.
Speed up tech service calls:
With Dial 0 you can get to the real help you need faster. I have used this, and it is fantastic.
Social butterfly? Dont miss anything:
With the Meebo IM app, you can sign into all of your instant messaging accounts with one easy to use program. It doesnt matter if it is AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ or all of the above, Meebo will make sure you never have to be "away."
I could go on, but those are the first that came to mind.

Shop Savvy!
My wife is currently on a tear reading the entire Twilight series and wanted to purchase the last 3 books. We were at the book store and she had all 3 and was adding them all up. She asked to see my phone and immediately went to Shop Savvy and scanned them all in. Another customer came over to her to see what she was doing and my wife told her everything about the application.
Funny thing is that my wife has given me tons of crap calling me a geek about my phone and here she is explaining to random people how it works. Best thing is that we saved over 20 bucks and saved a random person money as well!

G1 helps u to cheat? lol....
As for me,
- G1 helped me countless times already. I can go to any website while @ work, hopinf to view flash soon...
- I got directions to a friends bDay party and home
-I helped a co-worker while we we shopping for haloween. Her nephew needed a green T-shirt to dress as QuailMan (or something like that). I 'googled' Qmans image because we were unsure or the shade of the green.
-I use shopsavvy all the time, everytime, anytime...
-GasBot very essential, espcially given the economic times.
-I check out videos of euro soccer league round-ups on utube (Go Barca). Otherwise, I never used youtube on my PC (Or @ work)
-And of Course, the games keep me busy and challenge my deteriorating brain cells...
just to name a few...

Well its time to revive an old thread being that its the holiday season and everyon should have more situations in which the g1 helped them or amazed them. Here's my recent experience.
I was over at a friends house on xmas eve and we were going to another coworkers house for a few drinks and didn't know where the apartment was located. So I used my g1, and used the widget google search and typed in the name of the apartment and the g1 already used my location thru wifi and predicted what I was gonna type next, gave me the option of the city and state I was in and gave me results in less than 5 seconds including a map and driving directions. My friends were like wow that's cool that you can get info that fast. And be presice.
Then on a different occasion we had a raffle at work and I just so happened to win a cordless phone combo package that I didn't need and someone wanted to buy it for 15bucks, I said its worth atleast 50 bucks in store and they were like yeah right. Grabbed my g1, fired up shopsavvy and scanned the barcode and got the price list. Coworkers were like wtf did you do with your phone cause they didn't know a g1 can scan a barcode, now I have bout 10 coworkers that are mad they have sprint and want the g1.
