Preorder for people not on a contract?

i'm not currently on a contract with t-mobile. does that mean i can't preorder this thing at all? i don't get why that would be, but on the upgrade phone screen there is no G1 to choose from. anybody know? or am i going about the preorder process in the wrong way?

my contract was up too...but only recently and i got the option right from ny log in screen. At one point i called and found that if you are "pre-paid" or a "pay as you go" type of customer you cannot prepay. Her word was, if you are a "post-pay" customer you should have no issue pre-ordering.
