Just came back from Radio Shack and purchased a USB 2.5 converter, then a 2.5 to 3.5 converter for my speakers. I was surprised that when playing music, no sound came out of the speaker only from the phone itself. I ordered the HTC converter and hopefully that would work.
I wanted to play music so badly I even hooked the usb cable into my television set so I could hear the music through the tv speakers. The only thing that happened was my phone started to charge. Pictures I took with the camera were not able to be shown. My theory is the phone was sucking out too much power from the television. It took many tries for me to even get the tv powered up. The screen remained black unless I was using the options.
Any suggestions or explanations?

the pin alignment is different for an htc connector. i'm pretty sure that's the issue. i have the 3in 1 adapter and use it to hook my g1 up to a set of speakers. i have a set of sony speakers and a mini sub made for pc's. i use these at work to stream imeem all day and they sound great. and, i get alot of strange looks when people see my phone hooked up to a 2.1 speaker system. you'll have no issues with the 3 in 1 adapter. i'm still using the old one i had for my tytn.

yeah the 3-1 adapter or just a simple HTC 11 pin to 3.5mm adapter will do the trick
the audio in and out are located on the pins on the opposite side of the usb and power pins on the HTC connector, its made to work with mini USB connectors for connecting to a PC to access the SD card and for charging (it charges via the USB +5v ) the other pins are for sound and mic
it seems it also needs something connected (resistor most likely) to certain pins to make the phone output audio/mic in , i discovered this when i bought an HTC mic remote for a WM phone because it looked pimp and had lots of buttons, i didn't expect the buttons to all work but i was surprised to find out when i got it that nothing worked unless i plugged it in via the 3 in 1 adapter i bought as well

if you are having trouble with connecting ur phone to something.... u have to go to settings then sd card and turn off connect to usb or whatever it says there that has a check mark....uncheck that, but then u lose the ability to view ur files on ur card
plus ur phone will charge no matter what...long as its plugged in
